Heroes and Villains FanFest has come and gone from the tri-state area (but plenty of tour left!), and now Stephen Amell and the HVFF organizers want some input. Noticing how much excitement was generated by the Walker Stalker cruise (of Walker Stalker Con fame), they want to know what fans think about a possible HVFF one.

Heroes and Villains Fanfest blew into the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, New Jersey last weekend like a flash! The fanfest (HVFF for short) was a two day event just minutes from NYC, giving fans a preview of NYCC which arrives to the Javits Center in early October. HVFF featured the stars of the CW’s Arrow-Verse (Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow), as well as stars from other superhero shows on TV such as Fox’s Gotham and ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Fans had opportunities to interact with their favorite celebrities, get autographs, take photos, and watch star panels and Q&As.

One of my very favorite parts of all conventions are the artists and vendors waiting to take my money, and Heroes and Villains FanFest was no different. Shirts, posters, POP!s, swords, paintings, designer coasters… you name it, they had it. There was even a tattoo parlor set up to the side of the panel stage. I spent a lot of money, and I could have spent so much more (had I not run out), but even just browsing the geeky goodies at HVFF was tons of fun.

This year’s Heroes and Villains Fanfest (HVFF) swept into the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, New Jersey this past weekend. Guests included stars of DC and Marvel superhero TV series like Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Gotham, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. While Stephen Amell, the star of CW’s Arrow, was the featured attraction, a guest that drew some of the biggest crowds was John Barrowman. The man has literally done it all: Broadway, recorded albums, published books, and oh yeah, he’s a geek icon. Barrowman is a double threat to the super-geek crowd, playing the villain/anti-hero Malcolm Merlyn on Arrow since 2012 while also known to many as Captain Jack Harkness from Doctor Who and starring in its spinoff series Torchwood from 2006-2011. On Saturday afternoon, the actor packed the Exposition Center’s panel stage and kept the audience enthralled and laughing non-stop for an hour.

Stars of TV’s most “super” shows like Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Gotham were there. Amongst the guests was David Mazouz, the star of Fox’s hit show Gotham. Mazouz was only 13 when cast to play the role of young Bruce Wayne in the Batman prequel series, which debuted in 2014. Coincidentally, he shares a birthday with the fictional Wayne. Mazouz was part of the Gotham panel that packed the room early Saturday afternoon and spent the rest of the weekend meeting and greeting fans, taking pictures and signing autographs. We got a few minutes to speak with him about his experience on the show and the upcoming fourth season.
