Firefly’s Alan Tudyk, Nathan Fillion Crowdfunding ‘Con Man’ Web Series

If you’re a fan of Joss Whedon‘s television series Firefly, I think it’s safe to say that you’d agree that the show was canceled too soon. Do you know who else believes this to be the case? Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion, two of the stars of the very series that was canceled too soon.
There’s a reason why I keep stating the phrase “too soon.” You see, Tudyk and Fillion have begun an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to raise money for a new comedy series (which will air on Vimeo) called Con Man. Con Man is the story of an actor who had been on a science fiction television series, in which his character flew the spaceship. Unfortunately, the show was canceled too soon, and now he attends sci-fi conventions. Sound familiar?

Whenever one talks about the Untitled Web Series About a Space Traveler Who Can Also Travel Through Time one must always remember the question is never “where?” but “when?” So when Travis Richey dropped an Indiegogo video call-to-action on his YouTube, you know what question fell from the tip of my tongue. And when I learned that season two of said series would, in fact, be an honest to geekness movie complete with two famous doctors from long-standing science fiction TV series my question shifted from “when?!” to “GTFO!”
For more info, some videos, and to find out the answer to my questions and the names of the famous cameo doctors, you must drop below the cut.

Comic Book-Themed Show ‘Geek Cred’ Needs Your Support!

Nerdy television shows are few and far between; some portray us in over-the-top ways while others seek to make geeks seem cool and reserved. Granted, there are some that fall into each of these categories, but what about the rest of us? Well, a new series called Geek Cred seeks to educate the masses about the goings on in an actual comic book shop. With the catch phrase “By fans. About fans. For fans.” in place, they are fundraising via Indiegogo as of February 5, 2014. They plan to start shooting this Spring with a goal of premiering the show in late May.
Check out their official press release, some posters, and the official Indiegogo video after the jump.

Check Out The Trailer For ‘DOOMED! The Untold Story Of Roger Corman’s The Fantastic Four’

The first trailer for the Indiegogo-funded documentary DOOMED! The Untold Story of Roger Corman’s “The Fantastic Four” has made its debut. You can check it out here below.
Marty Langford‘s documentary purports to tell the candid and comprehensive story of the making of the low-budget Fantastic Four adaptation that was filmed in 1992 and scheduled for a nationwide theatrical release two years later until it was revealed that producer Bernd Eichinger had only made it in order to hold onto the rights to Marvel Comics’ first family of superheroes and had the finished film shelved forever. It has since been seen by many through bootlegs sold online and at comic book conventions. You can even watch it in full on YouTube!

‘Halloween,’ ‘X-Men’ Star Tyler Mane Needs Last-Minute Help Making Horror ‘Penance Lane’ Made

If you’re looking to spread a little Christmas cheer this holiday season, one place to look is the various crowdfunding websites.
One project worth looking at is on Indiegogo and comes from Tyler Mane, who starred as Michael Myers in Rob Zombie’s Halloween remake and its sequel as well as movies like X-Men, Troy, and The Scorpion King, and his production banner Mane Entertainment. The movie is titled Penance Lane, and also stars Mane.
Unfortunately the crowdfunding campaign is still far from reaching its $100,000 goal (currently at $33,362), and has very little time with under 40 hours left to go.
You can read more about the movie and watch both a trailer and a pitch from Mane below.

‘Fallout: Lanius’ A Fan Film That You Can Help Produce
|
 |

From the hearts and souls of gamers, geeks, and nerds come some of the greatest fan films ever. And thanks to fundraising sites like Indiegogo, now those who cannot create can donate! Fallout: Lanius is one of those fan films that will be head and shoulders above the rest. With a totally achievable goal of $10,000, this origin story of Legate Lanius is going to be spectacular! Remember Lanius is the primary big baddie from Fallout: New Vegas and this is all about explaining who he is and why he turned out the way he did.
Wade K. Savage has written the script and is the director/producer of the film as well. Based in Perth, Australia, Savage and a group of “hardcore Fallout fans” (his words, verbatim) are hellbent on creating a Fallout film of epic proportions. Having won the coveted “Independent Spirit” award at the Night of Horror International Film Festival, he has shown himself to have the skills necessary to render such a masterpiece, especially since he has surrounded himself with others just as skilled and dedicated.

We’re all geeks here. And really, what would we have to geek about if creative types didn’t pour their souls into their work? These guys and gals take enormous and, sometimes, unappreciated risks to put their products into our Cheeto-salted mitts. One of the largest hurdles that indie creators face is finding the funds or the commercial interest to publish their works. Crowdfunding, one of the most inspiring uses of social media, seeks to mitigate independent publishing risks and costs. Sites such as Kickstarter and IndieGoGo give fans an opportunity to have a stake in up-and-coming projects.
On crowdfunding sites you can find countless comics, movies, documentaries, and games with their creators just asking for a shot at getting idea off the ground. Typically, for a few bucks more than you might have paid otherwise, you get a copy of the product and the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping somebody get their foot in the door. The project owners set a pledge goal with various levels of giving. The more money you pledge, the more loot you get in return for a successful campaign. I’ve seen pledge rewards such as signed copies, a spot in the acknowledgements, custom sketches, production comic pages, and even including you as a character in the story.
