Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Bruce Campbell

I had the honor and privilege of interviewing one of my idols last week. Finding one of the only quiet areas in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, I sat down shaking like a total fanboy as I was connected to Bruce Campbell, the star of Starz’s Ash vs Evil Dead, and King of the B-Actors. When I say fanboy, I mean it. About a decade ago, friends and I waited 4 hours to meet him at a horror movie convention, and when the new series debuted at NYCC last Fall, I was there in the front row. Campbell is a legend since he, Sam and Ivan Raimi, and Rob Tapert borrowed money to make Evil Dead (1981). He reprised the role of Ash in 1986’s Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn, and 1992’s Army of Darkness. After co-producing the 2013 remake directed by Fede Alvarez, the decision was made to turn the story of Ash Williams and his never-ending quest to vanquish Deadites and demons into an episodic television series on cable. Starz came calling and the rest, as they say, is history. I asked the King of Chins about the series, and his lengthy career dating back nearly 40 years.

More than 30 years after Bruce Campbell, Sam Raimi, and Rob Tapert created The Evil Dead, the trio came back to work on Ash vs Evil Dead for the Starz network. The series debuted late last year after premiering at New York Comic-Con. Fresh off their appearance at SDCC, and with a little more than a month till its season 2 premiere, the first season is being released on Blu-ray this week. Season 1 saw Ash Williams (Campbell) accidentally conjure the Evil Dead again after reading from the Necronomicon while getting high with a young fluzy. Soon demons and deadites are everywhere and Ash is left to grab his boomstick and rev up the ole chainsaw hand. Joining him in his quest to vanquish evil are his former co-workers and sidekicks Pablo (Ray Santiago), and Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo). Together the trio was forced to deal with the evils of the book as well as a rogue FBI agent (Jill Marie Jones) and a strange woman with connections to Ash’s past (Lucy Lawless).

Ash (Bruce Campbell) is back at the cabin in the woods. His return there has been… well, I guess, same old same old. By that, I mean same old deadites running around killing people he cares about, blood spewing, body parts rolling… ya know, the good ole days! Just as Deadite Fisher was about to go after Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo), Pablo (Ray Santiago) and cute blonde hiker Heather (Samara Weaving), Ruby returned seemingly from the dead. Ruby (Lucy Lawless) tells Ash to cut the face off the Necronomicon (eww) and IT attaches itself to Pablo (eww again)! Everyone assumes Ruby is there to help stop the Evil Dead but it turns out, she WROTE the darn book! Ash and the gang must fight The Dark One, as season one of Ash vs Evil Dead comes to its conclusion.

Ash vs Evil Dead
Episode 1.9 “Bound In Flesh”

Starring Bruce Campbell, Ray Santiago, Dana DeLorenzo, Jill Marie Jones, Lucy Lawless, Samara Weaving, Indiana Evans, Ido Drent, Rebekkah Farrell
Starz
Air date: Saturday, December 26th, 2015, 9pm

Beware of some spoilers from last night’s episode of Ash vs Evil Dead!

We are back at the cabin in this week’s Ash vs Evil Dead. Ash (Bruce Campbell) brought the Necronomicon back to the place where it all began, and according to his Brujo vision, he has to bury it there. Last week we lost Amanda Fisher. Ash was off in the work shed and Fisher (Jill Marie Jones) fell victim to an Ash clone created from the original severed Ash hand. It was a particularly brutal death, involving a cleaver to the neck and impalement on deer antlers. It was a bloodbath and a reminder that even with Campbell spouting hilarious one-liners, that this is a horror series, based on one of the all-time great horror films. Kelly and Pablo arrive just as good Ash is fighting bad Ash, and have to figure out which Ash is which… of course both are little racist and totally inappropriate.

It’s time to go back to the beginning”¦ the cabin in the woods. At the end of last week’s episode, Ash (Bruce Campbell) snuck away from the gang to do it alone. After all, everyone he ever cared about ended up dead, so he doesn’t trust that his new friends will make it. Amanda Fisher (Jill Marie Jones) is now a full on part of the group and is actually receptive to Ash’s advances. Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo) and Pablo (Ray Santiago) are now heavily armed after beating up some militia goofs, and killing some militia deadites. At the Brujo’s compound, Ash went on a drug-fueled trip and was told to bury the book deep under where it all started”¦ “Honey, I’m home.”
