Lost

It’s always entertaining to see and hear the gushing praise of a legend in the film or TV industry toward a popular show or movie or anything of significance.

Recently, the man behind the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises, George Lucas, did just that by sending a letter to Lost producers including Carlton Cuse, Damon Lindelof, J.J. Abrams, and everyone else who have put so much work into creating such an amazing ride over the past six years. The letter was read aloud at a big Lost event that was held this past Thursday.

Super 8

Last week the internet was on fire with rumors that a teaser trailer for Cloverfield 2 might be playing in front of the arrival of Iron Man 2 when it was released last weekend.

As you can read at the bottom of our post on that rumor, there was also the chance that it could instead be a collaboration that J.J. Abrams was doing with Steven Spielberg, which would be a nod to the master film maker’s science fiction and horror work in the ’70s and ’80s. In either case, it was very clear that movie fans had something to be excited about for the 2011 summer movie season.

After that, we received an exclusive spy report of the mysterious trailer, which made it clear that it was without doubt the Spielberg collaboration. And though many were saddened that it was not Cloverfield 2, that sadness will quickly be replaced by excitement when you witness the teaser trailer here and now.

Grab your hand-held camera — just in case — and be sure not to miss a frame when you click over to the other side to watch the trailer for J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg’s Super 8.

Brad Bird

Brad Bird is best known for his work on animated feature films. He wrote and directed The Iron Giant, as well as both The Incredibles and Ratatouille for Pixar. Back in March of 2008, it was reported that Bird would make his live-action debut with 1906, a movie about a son trying to figure out who killed his father around the time that the devastating San Francisco earthquake of 1906 struck.

While Bird is still working on 1906, it now looks like it will not be his first live-action title; after months of rumors and reports that the director was one of the names being pursued to direct Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible IV, Cruise himself has confirmed himself that Bird is indeed the man for the job.

JJ Abrams MysteryEarlier this week, word got out that a teaser trailer for a new J.J. Abrams film called Super 8 would be playing in theaters in front of showings of Iron Man 2, starting with tonight’s midnight screenings.

Of course, initial reports were that Super 8 was somehow connected to another Abrams property, 2008’s Cloverfield, as either a sequel or more likely, a prequel [read Is There A ‘Cloverfield 2’ Teaser Trailer Attached To ‘Iron Man 2’?]. Abrams has since insisted that the film has nothing to do with Cloverfield, but being the man of mystery he is, would not offer up what it is about.

We have a super spy report on the soon-to-be released Super 8 teaser trailer that was given exclusively to Geeks of Doom by a very reliable source. You can read all about the footage here below, along with some non-spoilery facts that came direct from the teaser.

Cloverfield

UPDATE: According to our own exclusive spy report earlier today, it looks like this is indeed the Abrams/Spielberg collaboration touched on at the bottom of this post. Cloverfield 2 shall have to wait.

Remember how much crazy viral attention was brought in as J.J. Abrams and company masterfully lured us along with his “dollar bill attached to a string” teases of 2008’s Cloverfield?

Whether you love that movie or not, there is absolutely no denying how much fun it was to take each piece of mysterious video, images, or websites and try to figure out just what was going on as we paused and squinted a thousand times. At one point, people even thought it was going to be a Voltron movie! C’mon now, that’s brilliantly deceptive marketing and EVERYONE wanted to see what all the hype was about when the time came.

Now, rumors are flooding out that a teaser trailer for Cloverfield 2 might just be revealed to you when you go and see Iron Man 2 this weekend. And if this is so, let the viral anarchy begin!
