Things are progressing quickly for the long-awaited Black Widow standalone film. Earlier this year, Marvel Studios brought in Jac Schaeffer (TiMER, Olaf’s Frozen Adventure) to pen the script. This was followed by meetings with Deniz Gamze Erguven (the Turkish movie Mustang), Chloe Zhao (The Rider), and Amma Asante (A United Kingdom) as potential directors.

Now it looks like Marvel has narrowed it down to three. According to new reports, Cate Shortland (Lore, Berlin Syndrome), Maggie Betts (Novitiate), and Asante are the most likely candidates. More on the story below.

Marvel has hired Jac Schaeffer to write the screenplay for Black Widow, a standalone movie for the character played by Scarlett Johansson in The Avengers and sequels Age of Ultron and the upcoming Infinity War, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and sequel Captain America: Civil War, and more.

A standalone movie for Johansson’s character has been wanted by many for a long time now, but nothing has ever materialized. Marvel confirmed they were developing the project back in 2014, but this is the first real progress toward finally putting together a movie since then.

The magic of Frozen, the animated phenomenon that took the world by blizzard, will be back in an all new animated short film that can be seen before all showings of Pixar’s Coco. In the short, titled Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, the holiday season gets underway in the kingdom of Arendelle, Elsa reveals to Anna that there has never been a holiday tradition since their parents’ death. However, hope is at hand when Olaf and Sven decide to go on an epic adventure and find the perfect tradition for the two sisters before the big day arrives.

We were fortunate enough to sit down with directors Kevin Deters and Stevie Wermers, as well as producer Roy Conli and, of course, the voice of Olaf himself Josh Gad to talk a little bit about Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, its themes, and what they hope audiences pull from their experience watching it. It’s being reported that Chris Addison has signed on to direct a remake of the 1988 Steve Martin and Michael Caine comedy Dirty Rotten Scoundrels for MGM.

The remake will be titled Nasty Women, and Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson are currently attached to star in the two lead roles.
