Chuck Norris Reveals ‘The Expendables 2’ Will Be Rated PG-13; Sylvester Stallone Confirms It

Expendables 2

Not many people know this but Sylvester Stallone‘s 2010 brawny mercenary epic The Expendables was originally shot with the intention of getting a PG-13 rating. Fans of old school action the world over were disheartened but were willing to look past it just as long as Sly delivered the goods, and given the insane amount of heavyweight ass-kicking talent the star/director had assembled for the movie, there was no question he wouldn’t. As the film approached its release date the decision was made to pump some more blood-soaked carnage digitally into the proceedings to get its rating up to an R, despite the nagging stigma that the box office appeal of R-rated action films was dropping off fast each year.

That didn’t prevent The Expendables from becoming one of the surprise hits of that summer, grossing over $100 million in the U.S. and banking a grand worldwide total of over $274 million (with a budget of only $80 million). At that point not only was a sequel inevitable but it was assumed from the beginning that the next Expendables adventure, appropriately titled The Expendables 2, would be from the very beginning designed and executed with the intention of getting that all-important R rating.

But then a funny thing happened to The Expendables 2 on its way to principal photography. A funny thing named Chuck Norris. Continue reading to see how Norris changed the entire course of the movie, and to see a video.

Expendables 2

The first teaser trailer for Lionsgate’s summer 2012 testosterone-fiesta The Expendables 2 has been released. You can watch the trailer and read the official plot synopsis here below.

The trailer is little more than Bruce Willis‘ menacing Mr. Church (the character he played in the single scene he shared with Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger in the original) confronting Stallone’s Barney Ross about a deal they made and how it’s time to pay up, followed by a roll call of the movie’s cast. Eleven actors, and not one neck between them.

The Expendables

The first poster for The Expendables 2 (or EX2, as it’s dubbed here) has arrived, and it’s a surreal thing to lay eyes on.

Explosions and gunfire act only as a border to the multi-headed beast that is this movie’s cast. The poster features a veritable who’s who of 1980s action movie stars including Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, Jean-Clause Van Damme, and Dolph Lundgren. They’re joined by returning stars Jason Statham and Terry Crewes, as well as who I’m assuming is either Nan Yu or Amanda Ooms, who must be an important character as she beat out other stars Jet Li, Randy Couture, and Liam Hemsworth for a spot on the one-sheet.

Head on over to the other side now to check out the poster for The Expendables 2 now!

Kung Fu Panda

Last week we found out that Gary Oldman would be joining the cast of Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom. Now DreamWorks Animation has revealed the names of some other actors who’ve joined the cast of the sequel to the 2008 hit, Kung Fu Panda.

Most interesting of them all is the addition of the man, the myth, the legend, Jean-Claude Van Damme. The action star has been pretty much disappeared off the Hollywood radar aside for the role as himself in JCVD and a couple of returns to his Universal Soldier role.

JCVD
DVD
Directed by Mabrouk El Mechri
Starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Francois Damiens
Peace Arch Home Entertainment
Release date: April 28, 2009

Jean-Claude Van Damme movies remind me of a time when my friends and I would watch them way before we were old enough. Bloodsport and Kickboxer sparked a time where in our pre-adolescent state we would act out moments in our front rooms which included several painfully abandoned attempts to do the splits between two chairs and some pathetic round-house kicks to thin air.

There always seemed to be a formula that involved the bad guys getting the upper hand then Van Damme taking them down armed or not and there would usually be a shot of him doing the splits before the end credits rolled. Then along comes JCVD.

Jean-Claude Van Damme stars as a down on his luck version of himself. He is fighting a court battle over custody of his daughter, he can’t pay his lawyers fees, his agent can’t find him work, and as if that isn’t bad enough, Steven Seagal just pipped him to the starring role in the Purple Amulet. Then on a retreat to his homeland of Belgium his luck finally hits rock bottom.
