Slayer Reign In Blood

Right now, Amazon has Slayer‘s Reign In Blood in MP3 format on sale for only 5.00. The sale is part of the site’s monthly deals on MP3 albums for only $5 each.

If you’d like a physical copy of Reign In Blood, the CD is available for $11.49 and is an AutoRip, which means with the CD purchase you’ll also get a FREE MP3 download of the entire album.

This discount MP3 version of Reign In Blood contains two extra tracks: “Aggressive Perfector” and a remix of “Criminally Insane.” The original 10-song album, which clocks in at under 30 minutes, was released in 1986 and was the band’s breakout effort, mostly thanks to the wildly popular “Angel Of Death.” Featuring the original four members of Slayer, the album is a non-stop double-bass frenzy of thrash metal that set the bar high for other bands in that genre. A highly worthy purchase, even at full price, other standout songs are “Jesus Saves,” “Postmortem,” and “Raining Blood.” My favorite Slayer album by far. Check it out!!!

Slayer Seasons in the Abyss

As part of their monthly MP3 album deals, Amazon has Slayer‘s Seasons In The Abyss on sale for only 5.00 in MP3 format. (If you’d like a physical copy of the album, the CD is available for $12.98 and is an AutoRip, which means with the CD purchase you’ll also get a FREE MP3 download of the entire album.)

Released in 1990, Seasons In The Abyss was a worthy follow-up to the mighty South Of Heaven, serving as a continuation of its predecessor with songs like “War Ensemble,” “Spirit In Black,” “Expendable Youth,” “Dead Skin Mask,” and the epic title track. The album was Slayer’s fifth full-length studio effort featuring the classic line-up of Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman on guitars; Dave Lombardo on drums; and Tom Araya on bass and vocals, and was the last before Lombardo’s departure from Slayer. (Lombardo later returned to Slayer several times.)

Browse all 100 albums on sale this month for only $5 each, and be sure to check out the current $5.99 Live Albums Sale.

Remembering Slayer’s Jeff Hanneman On His Birthday; The Guitarist Would Have Been 50

Jeff Hanneman

Today would have been the 50th birthday of Jeff Hanneman, who died all too young and unexpectedly last May at the age of 49 of liver failure. The guitarist/songwriter was one of the guiding forces and searing bright lights of the band Slayer, whose no-nonsense and unapologetic approach to thrash music, which they not only were at the forefront of, but also revolutionized, became a sonic calling card to a generation of fans who were the second generation of the heavy metal boom.

Hanneman’s attack on guitar, on a relentless assembly line of high standard songs and albums by Slayer, such as “Chemical Warfare,” “War Ensemble,” and the band’s centerpiece, and possibly the genre’s centerpiece as well, “Angel of Death,” still stands as the kind of blueprint in which countless bands emulated in the sincerest form of flattery and continue to do so today, a true testament to the band and to Hanneman, who wrote that seminal song.
