JJ Abrams - Star Trek

If there is one thing J.J. Abrams is apparently really damn good at, it’s putting a punch back into a seemingly stale franchise.

Not only did he help revive the Mission: Impossible franchise, but following in the wake of his 2009 hit Star Trek, that sci-fi franchise couldn’t be more popular. But that’s not getting to the director’s head, as to him, nothing comes before the characters and plot for the much anticipated sequel.

The director recently spoke to Collider, and revealed that nothing will be happening until he gets the characters and script all set into place.

Super 8

A TV spot for the secretive JJ Abrams‘ film Super 8 was shown during the Super Bowl earlier this evening, and now the commercial is online.

Watch the TV spot here below.

Abrams loves to keep his projects under wraps, and as you’ll recall with Cloverfield, details about that film were slowly revealed through viral websites, leaving fans to speculate what it could possibly be about. Well, expect more of the same with Super 8, which already had people buzzing back in May after the teaser trailer was released.

Abrams spoke with Hero Complex, revealing finally some details about the Steven Spielberg-produced Super 8, which stars 12-year-old Elle Fanning.

FringeJ.J. Abrams has a good sense of humor despite the news that FOX has moved the Bad Robot-produced Fringe television show from Thursdays to a new Friday-night death slot.

Since the show is already rumored to be in danger of getting canceled, this kind of move could either be really good (lower expectations for ratings) or really bad depending on how many fans migrate over.

The first Fringe episode to air on its new Friday time slot is titled “Firefly” — also the name of Joss Whedon’s short-lived FOX sci-fi series that held that very same time slot.

Will J.J. Abrams Be Able To Avoid Filming ‘Star Trek 2’ In 3D?

It always warms my heart to hear that another decent filmmaker isn’t interested in shooting a huge franchise movie in 3D, especially when that filmmaker is J.J. Abrams and the franchise is Star Trek.

Abrams said Paramount approached him about shooting the sequel to his 2009 revamped Star Trek film in 3D, but he wasn’t very enthusiastic about the idea, according to a recent interview.

“I have nothing against 3D in theory. But I’ve also never run to the movies because something’s in 3D,” Abrams told NY Mag. “[As for Trek], as soon as I read the script, if it says, ‘Somebody pushes a weapon toward the camera in a menacing way,’ and we think, ‘That’d be better in 3D!’… I dunno.”
