Cover Price: $3.99 Everyone’s favorite skimpily-clad, sexpot vampire is back in a brand new comic book entitled Vampirella: Southern Gothic #1! She’s gone through a myriad of changes over the decades, but one thing always remains the same, Vampi continuously manages to kick the crap out of whatever she faces. And now, after so many adventures on this world and others, she finds herself in the deep south. Mississippi, to be exact… Following a pretty awesome battle with a few dozen shoe-stealing demons, our heroine decides to take a break to heal from an especially nasty wound. As sleep becomes her primary focus, she is roused from her impending slumber by a call on her mobile phone. After a bit of a flashback, the reader is able to identify the caller as Jacob, a former lover who is in a bit of a pickle. Traveling by train (who travels by train these days? Badass vampires, that’s who), Vampirella arrives in Mississippi to find Jacob awaiting her with a story about a woman who has died under different names a total of 37 times (insert funny Kevin Smith/Clerks reference here). While making a pit stop for some breakfast, we finally find out the connection between Jacob and the multiple resurrected woman. I’m not going to spoil the story but he is definitely dedicated to the lady in question.

Release Date: June 27, 2012
Cover Price: $3.99 In Kirby Genesis: Silver Star #6 there’s a LOT going on. Unfortunately, I didn’t like much of it, to be honest. While it was a good effort, I found myself SO lost in this comic, that I almost gave up reading it. But for you, dear readers, I stuck with it. Writer Jai Nitz had me SO confused with this issue I don’t know where to start. This comic is ALL over the map, it seems there’s more than a handful of Silver Stars and a number of his villains (who are also all the same person), that I really had a problem knowing just who was who and who I should be routing for. There’s also a little girl, that I THINK turns into a love interest in the end, but I honestly don’t know. I’m afraid this comic falls victim to some VERY confusing storytelling. A narrative or re-cap paragraph would’ve helped immensely here.

Dynamite Entertainment
Release Date: September 7, 2011
Cover Price: $3.99 Writer Garth Ennis has a history of creating characters who like to get violent from time to time, and his new series, Jennifer Blood features just such a character. Jennifer Blood is a housewife by day and a killer by night, hunting down mobsters and other criminals and dispatching them with brutal efficiency. The series has got all of Ennis’ trademark outlandish characters and some of the old ultra-violence. From what I’ve read, it seems like a fun series with tons of action. In previous issues of the series, Jennifer Blood has made a name for herself and has attracted the wrong kind of attention. Now someone has hired a team of killers to take Jennifer out. The killers are a team of young girls who act like every anime schoolgirl ninja stereotype, complete with broken English and inappropriate laughing. Jennifer has a plan though and isn’t going to let herself be taken out by a bunch of clichés.
