In Kirby Genesis: Silver Star #6 there’s a LOT going on. Unfortunately, I didn’t like much of it, to be honest. While it was a good effort, I found myself SO lost in this comic, that I almost gave up reading it. But for you, dear readers, I stuck with it.

Writer Jai Nitz had me SO confused with this issue I don’t know where to start. This comic is ALL over the map, it seems there’s more than a handful of Silver Stars and a number of his villains (who are also all the same person), that I really had a problem knowing just who was who and who I should be routing for. There’s also a little girl, that I THINK turns into a love interest in the end, but I honestly don’t know. I’m afraid this comic falls victim to some VERY confusing storytelling. A narrative or re-cap paragraph would’ve helped immensely here.

I’m afraid that artist Johnny Desjardins didn’t fair any better than the writer. I thought the pages in this book were very uneven, with some looking like a great deal more time was spent on them than others. Also, the storytelling could use some work. Granted, he’s drawing the same character about half a dozen different ways, but he really should’ve made them look noticeably different to the reader. There’s nothing in the story that that would contradict. Some of his cosmic stuff looks great, but it comes at the lack of his human characters, which should be a lot stronger.

I know, it’s a shock — Jimmy Hayes doesn’t like a Dynamite book, but I just can’t recommend this one at all. Maybe the issue will read better in trade, but I can’t say. Sorry, I’m gonna have to recommend that you give this one a pass.

  1. Also – “Peacock” is the song that made me a Katy Perry fan. Because I love a good song about dicks.

  2. As noted on Twitter, I didn’t write this series. Jai Nitz did. But sorry you found it confusing!

  3. wow he got none of the artist credits right either, I’m guessing he didn’t bother actually reading it.

  4. Unfortunately, the digital comp that Dynamite sent for review had the wrong page 2 insert, which is where the credits for the book are listed. Those have been updated. But there is nothing I can do regarding the reviewers confusion. I read it as well, but personally didn’t find the issue confusing.
