
Back in September we reported that Disney was planning to adapt Ally Condie‘s Matched, a young adult novel whose characters live in a dystopian world where a group called The Society makes every single decision for its people. At first David Slade was tapped to direct Matched, but according to THR, G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon Chu has now been hired to direct the film.
Chu is building quite the resume, having already helmed a few musically themed projects, including the Justin Bieber doc Never Say Never and his first action film G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which is due out in theaters this March. THR reports that even though Chu is going to direct Matched, this will not impede on his duties over at Sony, where he is directing a reboot of Masters of the Universe. However, the lack of developments with the project may give way to Matched being Chu’s next directorial effort.
