Movie Review: Suburbicon

Suburbicon
Director: George Clooney
Screenwriter: Joel Coen, Ethan Coen, George Clooney, Grant Heslov
Cast: Matt Damon, Julianne Moore, Oscar Isaac, Noah Jupe, Leith M. Burke, Karimah Westbrook
Distributor: Paramount Studios
Rated R | 105
Release Date: October 27, 2017
On the surface, Suburbicon is supposed to be this social satire set in the heart of late 1950s suburbia, where the little quiet idyllic neighborhood is the epitome of the American Dream. Even in the film’s opening, we see a sales pitch that tries to convince the audience that Surburicon is the place to live with its family-friendliness, perfect homes, and genuinely idyllic atmosphere. At this point, the film turns itself into a satiric commentary on race relations. From there it morphs into a murder-mystery comedy. And neither of these plots has anything to do with each other. So rather than working together cohesively, the two plots are at war with each other, making the film feel like it was shot separately and then stitched back up together for whatever this monstrosity is.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Distributor: 20th Century Fox
Rated R | 141 Minutes
Release Date: September 22, 2017
When getting a sequel, you’d expect something on a larger scale, something more epic than its predecessor. And a lot of times, a sequel can deliver on just that. But then there are those times where it just falls short or just stays the course. Kingsman: The Golden Circle is pretty much the latter. The film, which prides itself in dressing in sharply tailored suits, adds nothing new to the franchise. It’s same shop, same tailor, same pocket square, same tie, just a different knot. But it tries to add new elements by introducing the Statesman – the American version of the Kingsman but with more Stars and Stripes aesthetics.
But with barely any stakes and an eccentric villain with a lack of originality, Kingsman: The Golden Circle doesn’t do much of anything but put on the same exact suit, but with a different color and a different tie knot. My full review below.

Last week we saw a high-speed first look tease for the sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service, titled Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Though no information was given on when we might see a real trailer, it was assumed that one was coming soon.

High-Speed ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ First Look Teaser Released

20th Century Fox has released a high-speed first look teaser for Kingsman: The Golden Circle, the sequel to the surprise 2014 hit Kingsman: The Secret Service.
Like any trailer teaser the video is very short, running only 15 seconds long. Unlike most trailer teasers, however, this one presents the footage in rapid-fire, subliminal message-like flashes. There’s also no mention of when we’ll see an actual trailer, interestingly enough, which is usually the whole point of a trailer tease. Though to be fair, the video is dubbed “The Ultimate Breakdown,” and makes no promises of a trailer. Still, it’s safe to assume one is coming soon.
You can find the first Kingsman: The Golden Circle teaser below.

Channing Tatum Is Joining The Cast Of ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’

The gleefully violent, vulgar, and witty spy spoof Kingsman: The Secret Service, based on the comic series The Secret Service created by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons, was destined to get a sequel after grossing $414 million at the global box office last year. Luckily for us fans of the film, writer-director Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class), his writing partner Jane Goldman (Stardust, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children), and newcomer leading man Taron Egerton (Eddie the Eagle, Legend) will all be returning for the sequel, which is now going by the name Kingsman: The Golden Circle.
It now appears as if a Hollywood heavy-hitter is preparing to join the colorful, globe-trotting mayhem as 21 Jump Street and Magic Mike star Channing Tatum has signed on to play an unspecified role.

Katniss along with her fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellarck (Josh Hutcherson) come out as victors but also sparking a revolution amongst the impoverished districts.
