The BabymakersThe Babymakers
DIRECTOR: Jay Chandrasekhar
WRITERS: Peter Gaulke, Gerry Swallow
STARRING: Olivia Munn, Paul Schneider, Kevin Heffernan, Jay Chandrasekhar, Aisha Tyler, Nat Faxon
Millennium Entertainment
RELEASE DATE: August 3, 2012 (limited)

I love me some Broken Lizard. The comedy troupe behind movies like Super Troopers, Club Dread, Beerfest, and The Slammin’ Salmon have brought me hours of joy (often times of the drunken variety).

The Babymakers isn’t a Broken Lizard production, unfortunately, but it does relate to them. Jay Chandrasekhar (director and star of the aforementioned Super Troopers, Club Dread, and Beerfest, as well as director of multiple episodes of hit shows like Arrested Development, Chuck, Psych, and Community) directed the movie, and Kevin Heffernan (the much-quoted Farva from Troopers) star in supporting roles. Paired with lead stars Paul Schneider (who I loved in Andrew Dominik’s The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford) and Olivia Munn (who I’m also a big fan of from her days on Attack of the Show), create a comedy I can get behind with a gigantic smile on my sometimes-hard-to-please face. With all of these components so appealing to me as a movie fan, The Babymakers was easily a must-see flick.

Super Troopers

Fans of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe and their movies have a special place in their hearts for the group’s first successful flick, Super Troopers, which tells the story of a department of Vermont state police who tend to not take their work too seriously and are facing losing their jobs if the state decides to shut them down and let the local police department handle things.

Whether you like Broken Lizard’s movies or not, none of the movies that have followed Super Troopers have come nearly as close to being as lastingly quotable and hilarious as that movie is to this day. Because of that, fans have been waiting patiently for another chapter in the lives of these lovable cops for the near-eleven years since the first film was made…and now they may just be close to getting their Super Troopers 2.

Broken Lizard

Deadline Hollywood has the full slate of new shows and concepts that are being tested and developed for Comedy Central. There’s certainly a healthy amount of prospective new shows looking to wow the executives, and though only a few will ultimately find themselves getting a greenlight, only one really stands out at this moment.

That show is currently untitled, and it’s from a little comedy troupe known as Broken Lizard. The gang made swarms of fans with the release of 2001’s Super Troopers, which still to this day remains as quotable and hilarious as ever. After that, they went on to create films such as Club Dread, Beerfest, and the recently-released Slammin’ Salmon.

Click on over to the other side to check out the entire list of hopeful shows that Comedy Central will be looking at, including one with the hilarious Jon Benjamin and even Waiting the TV series?

SalmonIt only takes a few things in life to make me happy. One is Cheez-Its, another is the sweet, sweet fantasy that someone, somewhere will FINALLY catch that crafty bastard Benny Hill, and last but not least, Broken Lizard.

Collider has made me happy today, being the site that has the brand new red band trailer for Broken Lizard‘s newest offering, The Slammin’ Salmon.

Check out the trailer below, and remember, it’s RED BAND and NSFW. You’ve been warned.

The movie centers around the wait staff of a high class restaurant owned by a former heavyweight boxing champion (Michael Clarke Duncan) who sets up a contest where the best waiter will win $10,000 and the worst waiter will receive the ultimate ass-kicking by the champ himself.
