| ‘Star Trek’ Film Producer Harve Bennett Has Died
Harve Bennett, who was responsible for the production end of many classic mid-1970s fantasy programs, like The Six Million Dollar Man, as well as some of the more memorable Star Trek theatrical releases, died Wednesday, March 4, in Medford, OR. He was 84. Born in Chicago and a graduate of California’s USC Film School, Bennett did a stint in the Army before settling into the production end of show business, eventually become Vice President of ABC Programming for a spell. Post this position, Bennett became a full-fledged producer at Universal Studios, helming the classic late 1960s/early 1970s youth-are-cops Mod Squad and sci-fi/fantasy yarn styled programs such as the aforementioned Six Million Dollar Man, the spinoff gender bender of The Bionic Woman, as well as miniseries and other programs like Rich Man, Poor Man and 1975 television adaptation of The Invisible Man series.

| ‘SNL’: ‘Star Trek’ Leonard Nimoy Tribute; Dakota Johnson’s Parents & more (Video)
During last night’s Saturday Night Live, hosted by Fifty Shades Of Grey star Dakota Johnson, the show paid tribute to the late Star Trek actor Leonard Nimoy, who passed away on Friday. In a sketch titled “Emergency Room,” Kenan Thompson pays a doctor who gets called into work straight from a Trek convention dressed as Worf, the Klingon security chief from Star Trek: The Next Generation. At the end of the skit, Dr. Worf gives the Vulcan salute — the signal made famous by Nimoy’s Mr. Spock — before the screen showed an image of Nimoy in the original series giving the salute. (While Nimoy was known as part of the original Star Trek series, he did have a notable guest-star spot on TNG.) Watch the sketch here below, along with other highlight videos from the episode.

| President Obama On Leonard Nimoy’s Passing: ‘I Loved Spock’
Today, the world mourns the death of the great Leonard Nimoy, best known for bringing to life the character of Mr. Spock on Star Trek. The actor had fans far and wide and touched so many people, including U.S. President Barack Obama, who is a self-professed Star Trek fan and has flashed the Vulcan “Live Long and Prosper” salute many times, including when he met Trek star Nichelle Nichols, as well as when he met Spock himself. Earlier today, The White House issued a statement from the President on Nimoy’s passing, where he stated “I loved Spock.”

| ‘Star Trek’ Legend Leonard Nimoy Dies At 83
Leonard Nimoy, the legendary actor known around the world as the Vulcan Mr. Spock in the Star Trek universe, died this morning at his home in Los Angeles, according to the NY Times. He was 83. The actor had revealed last year that after years of smoking he had been diagnosed with COPD, a progressive lung disease that affects one’s ability to breathe, and was hospitalized at UCLA Medical Center for chest pains on Thursday, February 19, 2015, after a call to 911 was placed. The NY Times reports that Nimoy’s wife, Susan Bay Nimoy, confirmed her husband’s death, revealing the cause was end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
