| Happy 47th Anniversary, Star Trek! |

Happy 47th anniversary to Star Trek! On September 8, 1966, the very first regular television episode of the series, created by Gene Roddenberry, premiered on NBC. The episode that marks this anniversary is called “The Man Trap,” which introduced the world to the bridge crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise: William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk; Leonard Nimoy as First Officer Mr. Spock, DeForest Kelley as Dr. McCoy, George Takei as Sulu, and Nichelle Nichols as Uhura. Though other installments for the series had been produced and contained events that came before, “The Man Trap” was actually the first regular episode of the series to air on television. You can watch the episode right now through Amazon’s Instant Video; you can also view it on the Season 1 Blu-ray or DVD. Also, if you want more Star Trek (and you totally should), Amazon is having a Star Trek DVD/Blu-ray Sale right now where you can get all the movies for discounted prices.

Dark of the Moon, the third installment of the Transformers motion picture series, is full of attention-grabbing action, with magnificent special effects that show major improvements on the previous two films. And despite a plot with logic gaps and other wanting elements, the consequence is a fun romp. Hey, it’s a popcorn movie after all! Dark of the Moon picks up where Revenge of the Fallen left off. Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) has moved on in life – now graduated from university, he lives with new girlfriend Carly Spencer (Rosie Huntington-Whiteley) while looking for his first major job. Despite the progress forward, he suffers an inner turmoil after having been central to the trials of the battles between the Autobots and Decepticons, feeling that his future is substandard and matters less than his efforts fighting the good fight with allies Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) and Bumblebee.

| Happy Birthday Leonard Nimoy! |
 |

Today is the birthday of Leonard Nimoy, the actor and science-fiction legend who is best remembered for playing the Vulcan character Spock on Star Trek, which remains one of television’s biggest cult and mainstream successes of all time. Nimoy played a character in Spock which perfectly bounced off of Captain James T. Kirk, the equally memorable character on the show played by William Shatner, and the two men were like a intergalactic Lennon/McCartney in a metaphoric sense and even like a sci-fi version of The Odd Couple sometimes; the cool, emotionless, logical demeanor of Nimoy’s Spock bouncing Saturn-like rings around the emotional, zealous, and passionate fervor of Kirk. The two characters formed a mutual admiration society with each other, regardless of their perceptions of the other’s foibles and shortcomings, and successfully navigated their way through endless adventures, as the famous catchphrase goes, “seeking out new civilizations and boldly going where no man has gone before.”

| Deal: ‘Combat!: The Complete Series’ DVD Box Set |
 |

Amazon is currently running a deal on Combat!: The Complete Series, which was the ABC-TV series that originally ran during the mid 1960s and focused on a squad battalion of American soldiers fighting the Germans during World War II, and the price that Amazon is offering for the package makes this deal irresistible. The list priced at $299.99, but Amazon is giving buyers of this 40-disc DVD set for only $114.99, an absolutely unreal deal for sure. The deal runs out at the end of the day on Saturday, May 26, while supplies last. Combat! ran from 1962 to 1967 and starred the late Vic Morrow, best remembered as one of the figures who died in the tragic Twilight Zone: The Movie accident in 1982. Here, he leads a cast of alpha males, such as Rick Jason and Pierre Jalbert, into 152 episodes of war and the trials, tribulations, and tragedies experienced and suffered during it. The series was also chock full of plenty of guest stars throughout its run, such as Telly Savalas, Lee Marvin, James Colburn, Leonard Nimoy, Sal Mineo, John Cassavetes, and many, many others.

| Leonard Nimoy Wanted To Play Both Spock and Sybok In ‘Star Trek V’
The biggest part of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier is that we meet Sybok, the Vulcan half-brother to Starfleet officer Spock, played by Leonard Nimoy. In the film, directed by William Shatner (Captain Kirk in the TV and movie franchise), Sybok is played by Laurence Luckinbill, who in a recent interview with StarTrek.com revealed that Nimoy had wanted to appear in the film as both Spock and Sybok. Luckinbill said that he was told that Nimoy thought it should be a dual role, with Nimoy acting for both characters. Since the characters weren’t twins, Shatner decided against that. Luckinbill said he felt that that decision was taken out on him in the beginning of filming.
