Mad Max Video Game

A month ago we got our first real preview of the gameplay of Mad Max, an upcoming video game from Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios. Now a new trailer has been released that’s more cinematic—as Mad Max: Fury Road drives toward $220 million worldwide at the box office—focusing on the story players will be taking on.

In the game Max finds himself beaten and without a vehicle after a gang led by the main villain, Scrotus, attacks him, leaving him to find a way to build a new vehicle with the help of an expert mechanic lovingly named Chumbucket. Because, as Max puts it, “Out here, a man with no wheels is a man with no hope.”

You can check out the story trailer for Mad Max below.

Mad Max: Fury Road

The long-awaited Mad Max: Fury Road finally released last week, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. While critically successful the movie didn’t dominate at the box office, finishing in second place domestically behind Pitch Perfect 2 its first weekend. It also had to deal with the juggernaut Avengers: Age of Ultron, which finished third in its third weekend of release and brought its grand total to $1.1 billion worldwide.

Despite the big time competition, Fury Road has still managed a strong $110 million worldwide so far—$3 million more than Pitch Perfect 2 currently has made thanks to better numbers in foreign markets—on its $150 million budget, so naturally fans will wonder whether or not there will be a sequel.

According to director George Miller, there will indeed be more movies, and he’s even shared the title of the next one. You can see what he had to say below.

“Oh, what a day! What a lovely day!”

Mad Max: Fury Road is nothing short of a goddamn masterpiece. This is an epic of grease, gunpowder, and gasoline – a feminist, post-apocalyptic Western on wheels, all shiny and chrome. This is action cinema in its purest, most exhilarating form.

Co-written and directed by George Miller, Fury Road finds The Road Warrior himself, Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy), pursued by Warboys, a bloodthirsty clan of marauders under the command of the tyrannical Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne). The leather-clad maniacs capture Max and haul him off to the Citadel, a massive stronghold where the warlord rules over the poor, sickly wretches of the wasteland.

Within the Citadel, Max becomes a blood bag for Nux (Nicholas Hoult), a wounded Warboy. Max hangs upside down, his blood draining into Nux, who wants nothing more than to die a glorious soldier’s death and be ushered into shiny, chrome-colored Valhalla.

Mad Max Video Game

Fortunately for those excited to see what a current-generation Mad Max video game will look like don’t have to wait nearly as long as fans of the movie series have waited for Mad Max: Fury Road to arrive in theaters (which is next month, by the way).

A gameplay overview trailer for the game has been released online, and it offers a great look at what potential players can expect. It doesn’t look like they tried to reinvent the wheel or anything—a little bit of Tomb Raider or Uncharted, some Batman: Arkham combat, and of course a dash of developer Avalanche Studios’ other game series, Just Cause, all set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, and we’re good to go.

You can read more about the game and check out the first gameplay preview below.
