Matt Reeves

Audiences won’t get to see Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the latest sequel in the long-running sci-fi franchise, until this summer, but 20th Century Fox must surely be happy with how the anticipated film is shaping up because they have signed Dawn director Matt Reeves to both co-write and direct the next Apes adventure.

Reeves, who also directed Cloverfield and Let Me In, will share scripting duties on the third entry in the rebooted Apes franchise that was reborn with the surprising success of 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes with Mark Bomback. The original screenplay for Dawn was written by Rise scribes Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver and went through rewrites by Scott Z. Burns (Contagion) and Bomback. In addition to this summer’s smashing X-flick The Wolverine, Bomback has also worked on the scripts for Live Free or Die Hard, Tony Scott’s final movie Unstoppable, and last summer’s Total Recall remake.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes

As luck would have it, Fox didn’t need to make a mad scramble to find a director for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, after Rupert Wyatt exited because he felt he couldn’t give the sequel the same quality as he did in the first film. Let Me In and Cloverfield director Matt Reeves was brought in to direct the film, which would be his first time directing a major summer tentpole flick.

But before Reeves can sit in the director’s chair, Mark Bomback will be rewriting the draft that Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver penned. The script recently saw some revisions done by Contagion scribe Scott Burns.

Wolverine

A possible teaser poster for next summer’s The Wolverine has leaked today. You can check it out here below.

The image was supposedly taken from the office of director James Mangold. If it proves to be authentic the poster will confirm that the next movie is taking Marvel’s ageless, adamantium-clawed mutant to Japan for a storyline adapted from the early 1980’s comic miniseries by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller that will pit Logan against ninjas, samurai, and a lost love. It’s a stark and powerful teaser with Wolverine’s trademark claws slashing through the image of the flag and the tagline “Rising Soon” playing on the nation’s identity as the Land of the Rising Sun.

24

Rumblings of a movie based on the hit FOX TV drama, 24, have come and gone from time to time, but not a whole lot of movement has occurred. Now it appears speeds are picking up quickly with sources indicating that 20th Century Fox and Imagine Entertainment hope to begin production by next spring when star Kiefer Sutherland becomes available.

The studio is expecting a script from screenwriter Mark Bomback by the end of the year, and they’ve reportedly narrowed down their director search to five possible (and currently unnamed) candidates.
