Written and directed by Ryan Coogler, Fruitvale Station is based on the true story of Oscar Grant, a young man killed by a police officer at the Fruitvale Bay Area Rapid Transit Station in Oakland, California in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day 2009. Michael B. Jordan (The Wire, Friday Night Lights) stars as Oscar, an unemployed 22-year-old struggling to provide for his daughter Tatiana (Ariana Neal) and girlfriend Sophina (Melonie Diaz, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints). When he wakes up on New Year’s Eve, Oscar resolves to be a better son to his mother (Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer), a better partner to Sophina, who he hasn’t been completely honest with lately, and being a better father to Tatiana, their four year-old daughter. After taking Tatiana to school and dropping Sophina off at work, Oscar goes to his former place of employment, a grocery store in Hayward, California, to ask for his job back.

The Weinstein Company has released the first trailer for Fruitvale Station, the award-winning, highly acclaimed indie film from Ryan Coogler, a USC graduate making his feature film debut. Starring Michael B. Jordan (Chronicle, Friday Night Lights), Fruitvale Station tells the true story of Oscar, a 22-year-old Bay Area resident, who crosses paths with friends, enemies, family, and strangers on New Year’s Eve. Based on the real story of the shooting of Oscar Grant in San Francisco, Fruitvale Station also stars Melonie Diaz, Kevin Durand and Octavia Spencer. | Michael B. Jordan Rumored To Play Johnny Storm In Josh Trank’s ‘Fantastic Four’
Before Andrew Garfield signed on to play as Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man, Donald Glover was rumored to play as the webslinging hero. That was as close as we got to an actor of color playing a lead character who is normally portrayed as a Caucasian. Now we are a step closer to breaking the comic book color barrier with this latest rumor. Josh Trank is currently in the casting phase of the Fantastic Four reboot. One of the biggest casting rumors to circulate is that Allison Williams (HBO’s Girls) will play Sue Storm aka The Invisible Woman. Now there is a report from The Wrap indicating that Chronicle star Michael B. Williams could play Johnny Storm, a.k.a. The Human Torch, a character who has long been recognized as white.

| George Lucas Says ‘Red Tails’ Is As Close To ‘Star Wars: Episode 7’ As We’ll Get
Star Wars creator and master money-maker George Lucas stopped by The Daily Show recently to chat with Jon Stewart about his upcoming WWII passion project, Red Tails. Lucas has been working hard to get the movie made for over two decades now, but, as you’ll hear in the video, faced many hurdles in succeeding, including most major studios not wanting to take on a big budget risk with an almost entirely black cast and a movie they didn’t think could be marketed in foreign markets. But as always, the conversation found its way to Star Wars as Lucas compared the two, and an interesting announcement was made.
