For reasons beyond my (or anyone’s for that matter) understanding, Millennium Films hired Bryan Singer to direct a film adaptation of the Red Sonja even though the filmmaker has a reputation for poor on-set behavior and has been surrounded by a myriad of sexual assault allegations.

Though many have tried to take the pages of the comic book to the big screen, Singer’s hiring was as close as it got to getting the project off the ground. While the director has been quick to deny the sexual assault allegations, guilds and societies have made an effort to distance themselves from him. This includes the people behind the Oscar-nominated Bohemian Rhapsody, the Queen biopic from which Singer was fired.

Now it looks like enough is enough, as Millennium has put Red Sonja on hold. More on the report here below.

Bryan Singer is no stranger to scandals and poor on-set behavior, and yet, the guy still keeps getting offers to direct films. Singer was recently fired from Bohemian Rhapsody after reports of him walking off set started to surface. And despite his reported unprofessionalism, it looks like he is getting another chance to direct a film. The long-gestating female ensemble action film, now officially titled The ExpendaBelles, has finally found its director. According to Deadline, 21 and Killers director Robert Luketic is set to helm the female spinoff of its testosterone counterpart The Expendables.

ExpendaBelles reunites him with his Legally Blonde screenplay writers, Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah, who penned the original script for the female action comedy spinoff. Now that the film has found its director, Millennium Films will begin its search for the actresses to fill the roles. Hit the jump to read more about the film and its logline.

Remakes. I’ve never been entirely opposed to their existence. Several of my favorite movies were technically remakes. I just feel that there should be a statute of limitations when it comes to when a certain film is remade….as in, not more than once a decade.

George Romero‘s Day of the Dead, one of the most gruesome horror films of the 1980s and possibly the last truly great zombie movie the director ever made (Land of the Dead had moments though), is being remade. Those of you with photographic memories will remember fondly when Day got the redux treatment just five years ago under the direction of Steve Miner (Friday the 13th Parts II and III in 3-D) with a cast that included Mena Suvari, Nick Cannon, and Ving Rhames.

Millennium Films has hired Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger director Renny Harlin to make Hercules 3D, a new take on the mythological character.

Millennium is aiming at March of 2014 to release the movie, which is also an attempt at beating Paramount and MGM’s own Hercules movie based on the graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian War, which is being directed by Brett Ratner and stars Dwayne Johnson in the lead role. That one will be released on August 8, 2014.
