| Black Metal Friday: Scour “Tear Gas” |

When former Pantera and current Down and Superjoint frontman Phil Anselmo isn’t busy apologizing for being a closet racist, he actually manages to crank out an astounding amount of high quality music. There was an incident earlier this year where the singer gave a Nazi salute and uttered the phrase “white power” onstage at Dimebash, an annual tribute to slain Pantera guitarist “˜Dimebag’ Darrell Abbott. Anselmo apologized profusely and said that he understood that he needed to change his ways. However, it was very recently discovered that he had just subscribed to a white power channel on YouTube. While we at GoD certainly don’t condone or forgive Anselmo’s behavior, it doesn’t negate the significance of his contributions to the metal world over the last 3 decades. His latest project may just be his most intriguing outing yet. Scour is a new Anselmo-fronted black metal project, and you can check out a new track from them below.

| Massive Metal Monday: EYEHATEGOD “Medicine Noose”
EYEHATEGOD is one of the most influential bands to ever emerge from the New Orleans music scene despite their sparse output. Formed in 1988, the sludge metal legends have only managed to release 5 albums due, in part, to the band members’ penchants for heavy drug use and side projects. Singer Mike Williams, in particular, has fought a very public battle with heroin addiction. Guitarist Jimmy Bower is a multi-instrumentalist who has also been in Crowbar and Phil Anselmo’s supergroups Down and Superjoint Ritual. In his absence, the other four members of the band have a side project known as Outlaw Order. This week’s Massive Metal Monday track is “Medicine Noose” from EYEHATEGOD’s self-titled 2014 album
EYEHATEGOD. Sadly, it is the final album to feature founding drummer Joey LaCaze, who passed away in 2013 from respiratory failure. This MMM is dedicated to the memory of Joey LaCaze.

| Massive Metal Monday: Superjoint Ritual “Waiting For The Turning Point”
Most folks know Phil Anselmo as the singer of metal giants Pantera or from his current main band Down. But those who have followed the man’s career closely will recall the amazing work that he did with the metal super-group Superjoint Ritual. It was a side project where Anselmo could pursue his love of crossover thrash. Crossover is a blend of thrash metal and hardcore punk that was pioneered by bands such as Suicidal Tendencies, Agnostic Front, Stormtroopers of Death, Discharge, and Dirty Rotten Imbeciles in the 1980s. Continue below to check out the track “Waiting for the Turning Point” from Superjoint Ritual’s 2003 album A Lethal Dose of American Hatred.

| Pantera’s ‘Far Beyond Driven’ Gets A 2-Disc 20th Anniversary Edition
A two-disc 20th Anniversary Edition of Pantera‘s Far Beyond Driven will be released by Rhino on March 25, 2014, and is available for pre-order now. The album, which was the band’s seventh studio offering, debuted in 1994 at #1 on the Billboard chart — an amazing feat for a metal record — and then stayed on the chart for seven more months. Following in the crushing aural assault of their previous record, 1992’s Vulgar Display of Power, Far Beyond Driven contains the standout tracks “I’m Broken,” “5 Minutes Alone,” “Strength Beyond Strength,” “Becoming,” and a cover of Black Sabbath’s Planet Caravan all performed by singer Philip Anselmo, guitarist Dimebag Darrell, bassist Rex Brown, and drummer Vinnie Paul.
