Clive Barker still has it (was there ever any doubt?). The Scarlet Gospels, the last chapter of Pinhead the Cenobite’s story, has him face off against Harry D’Amour, his old foe. His ambitions are small – destroy the world and rule over Hell. That’s not too much ask, is it? The Hell Priest does have his trusty hooks, but uses them in the beginning to desiccate the most powerful magicians to gather their secrets, then does not rely on them so much for a lot of the novel. Barker succeeds in asking us what we are most afraid of, and then exponentially expanding it until we cannot even comprehend the terror we are reading. What can you expect when our setting is a desolate New York, followed by a journey through actual Hell?

Artist Matt Andrews cleverly and beautifully illustrated some of horror’s biggest icons using only cosmetics and beauty supplies. And if that task wasn’t intricate enough, the beauty product he used for each horror baddie was chosen for its ironic twist; for example; Nosferatu and Dracula were created with bronzer, The Wolfman with shaving cream, and The Creature From The Black Lagoon in baby powder. Each illustration has a little story to go with it explaining why those products were chosen.

The artwork is part of Andrews’ book, Cosmonstrography: Cosmetic Monster Photography, which is available via Blurb for $16.

The $10 t-shirt deal of the day over at RIPT Apparel today called in “MANIACS II” by RatiganProductions features horror killers Pinhead, Michael Myers & Ghostface in a parody of the Animaniacs.

The shirt went on sale at RIPT today, Friday, April 12, 2013, at midnight CST, and will continue for 24 hours from then, and once it’s over, it will not be sold on the site anymore.

The t-shirt is available in men’s (through 3XL), women’s, and youth sizes for $10 each. Kids sizes are $10 (Girls, Toddlers, and Onesies); Hoodies for $38 (in Men/Unisex sizes). There’s a Russian independent ambient advertising firm out there called Stoyn who likes to sometimes use food in their marketing, including making unique ice cream creations for folks to enjoy.

Their latest line of ice cream takes something many geeks can appreciate, the horror movie icons of the 1980s, and combines those characters with some truly unusual ice cream flavors.

It’s always funny to hear that with all the Hellraiser movies out there, Clive Barker has only been involved in the first movie, and the novella that movie was based on. And that’s it. And this is the name most often connected with the series. So I’m sure it’s exciting for horror fans to learn that Barker has returned to the series that made him famous, as he has with the new comic series from BOOM! Studios. It’s been almost 25 years since he last worked on the series, so now it’s time to see if he has picked up where he left off.

Anyone familiar with the movies will be right at home with this comic. It quickly sets up the familiar elements of the series: the puzzle box, the Cenobites, lots and lots of bodies without any skin — they’re all here within the first 10 pages. Hellraiser #1 sees Pinhead, the most famous of the Hellraiser characters, as he tries to make some kind of deal with a powerful force. It also brings back a character that will be known to people that know the series, but others will need to check the Hellraiser Wikipedia entry.
