| Steven Spielberg Won’t Change ‘E.T.’ and ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ For Blu-ray |
 |

Steven Spielberg was in attendance at last night’s Los Angeles Times Hero Complex 30th anniversary screening of his seminal adventure epic Raiders of the Lost Ark, the film that introduced Indiana Jones to the world and cemented Harrison Ford‘s movie star status, and at a post-screening Q&A the Academy Award-winning filmmaker took time to address a topic that has been on film fans’ minds over the past few weeks. During the Q&A session, in which Harrison Ford made a surprise guest appearance, Spielberg fielded questions about the status of the E.T. and the Indiana Jones movies on Blu-ray. The director hinted that both releases were in the works, but then he polled the audience to see if they would have a problem with only the 1982 theatrical release version of E.T. being released on Blu-ray. The answer from the crowd was a loud and resounding “NO!” Spielberg also revealed that he has no intentions of tinkering with Raiders of the Lost Ark for its eventual Blu-ray either.

The 1970s announced the finest era of the summer movie blockbuster. Two of the biggest movies of that decade, Star Wars and Jaws, defined the summer movie season. These movies, directed by George Lucas and Steven Spielberg respectively, are still heralded by us – the geeks. Most of us would not be here writing and reading this very website if it were not for these movies (my name is Obi-Dan for crying out loud!). This movie-making dream team came together to create one of the greatest action adventure movies ever made: Raiders Of The Lost Ark. From a story by George Lucas and Phillip Kaufman, who had recently co-written the screenplay for the outstanding Clint Eastwood-starring Western, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Indiana Jones began to take real shape in the late ’70s. The screenplay was then written by Lawrence Kasdan with Raiders only his second screenplay to get made (his first?: Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back just a year earlier. Talk about hitting the ground running).

| Blend Of Doom: Determining The Ultimate Geek Movies Of All Time |
By cGt2099
| December 2nd, 2010 at 9:56 pm |
This week, the podcast Social Blend, which I co-host with Jay Fowler aka SilentJay74, was invaded by the Geeks of Doom! Empress Eve and Tched were considerate enough to join us in a discussion focusing on what we believe to be The Ultimate Geek Movies of All Time.
Quite frequently, you will find some blogs try to come up with some attempt at a “Top 10” list of best movies within any given subject area, but for this special edition of Social Blend, we decided to simply discuss, debate, and squabble about (and in some cases, ridicule) the movies we collectively believe should be on every geek’s DVD shelf. Aside from the obvious selections from the dominions of Star Wars and Star Trek, we had a look at all kinds of movies from a wide range of genres and categories — from movies based on comics, to science fiction, to music-based films, to horror and beyond.

| Mustache On Or Off? Tom Selleck Replaces Harrison Ford On ‘Indiana Jones’ Poster
Here’s a bit of hypothetical fun, just to end off your weekend with. For those who don’t know, while director Steven Spielberg liked Harrison Ford best for the role of Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark, writer/creator/producer George Lucas didn’t want to cast him because he had already appeared in Lucas’s American Graffiti and Star Wars. The next choice to play Indy was Tom Selleck, but thankfully for us, he decided not to due it due to a commitment to Magnum P.I. that ultimately didn’t even start filming until after Raiders had wrapped. Ah, fate. To have a little fun with the thought of another actor as Indy, someone decided to make a Raiders of the Lost Ark poster with Selleck front and center as the star. You can click the image to see the poster full-sized, and be sure to share your thoughts on how Tom looks as Indy below!
