After reading Danger Girl G.I. Joe #2, I’d advise you to breathe into a paper bag, put your head between your knees, whatever it is you need to do to catch your breath. This issue, as was the first, is quite a roller coaster ride!

Andy Hartnell has proven himself time and again that he can write Danger Girl. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that he’s the BEST writer of Danger Girl that there ever has been and ever will be. You can imagine my surprise, then, at how well written this issue is, because the Danger Girl team is BARELY IN IT!!! That’s right, it’s 90% G.I. Joe and 200% awesome. The thing that I love about Hartnell’s work here is that he chooses the continuity that EVERYONE knows when it comes to G.I. Joe – the cartoon continuity. And from there he drops Abbey Chase and friends smack dab into the action. VERY well played.

Letters by Neil Uyetake

IDW Publishing
Release Date: August 15, 2012
Cover Price: $3.99

After a somewhat mediocre last issue, G.I. Joe #16 fires back with a vengeance. This issue moves the story forward quite a bit, advancing MANY storylines and overall, manages to entertain the reader.

Chuck Dixon turns in a great story this issue. It’s a classic G.I. Joe tale, with all the trademarks of what makes G.I. Joe so much fun to read. You’ve got several split up groups of Joes each fighting their own battles, and some of them aren’t actually fighting Cobra; in fact, only half of them are. Between the main story pieces are one to two page little stories that remind you about what some characters are up to and others that set things up for future issues, which is always a nice touch, especially when the payoff is going to be big. There’s some great dialouge between the characters, and I really feel that Dixon is finally making these characters his own instead of writing them how he thinks they need to be written. There’s a couple of different endings, all great, but there’s one involving the immediate future of the G.I. Joe team that will have you impatiently waiting for this book to come out next month.

G.I. Joe #15 is basically the perfect G.I. Joe comic. It’s got everything that you want – Joes, Cobras, and fighting. Another great issue by the current creative team. YO JOE!!

Writer Chuck Dixon sure knows how to handle a crowd!!! There are COUNTLESS characters in this issue and they all get a fair amount of “scren time,” he moves the story along at a great pace, and winds up and starts several plot threads. And let me tell you, one of them that he starts is gonna have a REALLY interesting outcome. Frankly, I’m afraid of how it’s going to turn out. Seriously, this issue is GREAT. In a way, it really reminds me of an old episode of the TV show, although clearly updated.

Writer Chuck Dixon got my letters. After a few disappointing issues, I am happy to report there is 100% more Snake Eyes ninja butt-kicking in Snake Eyes #7 than in the last three issues combined. THANK YOU, CHUCK!! Not only that, but this issue actually moves the Hunt for Cobra Commander story arc forward, as we’ve only got two more issues of G.I. Joe comics until we find out who’s going to be the new Cobra Commander!

Star Trek Legion of Super-Heroes 2Star Trek – Legion of Super-Heroes #2
Written by Chris Roberson
Pencils by Jeffrey Moy
Inks by Philip Moy
Colors by Romulo Fajardo, Jr.
Covers by Phil Jimenez, Steve Lightle, Gabriel Rodriguez
IDW Publishing
Release Date: November 9th, 2011
Cover Price: $3.99

In this second issue of Star Trek Legion of Super-Heroes, the story is primarily the characters figuring out just WHAT is wrong with their situations. While the first issue was mostly setting up the characters — who they were, where they come from, what there motivation is — this issue delves deeper into the story about just why things are the was they are.

Writer Chris Roberson does a fantastic job on characterization again in this issue. I’m a bigger Star Trek fan than Legion fan, but he doesn’t make the Legion characters seem at all foreign to me. He moves the story along at a good pace, lots of action, lots of reveals, and manages to make the whole thing NOT boring like so many crossover comics are. This is not a “wait for them to fight” book, it tells a valid story that is completely believable in both universes.
