The Exorcist III
Collector’s Edition Blu-ray
Director: William Peter Blatty
Screenwriter: William Peter Blatty
Cast: George C. Scott, Ed Flanders, Jason Miller, Scott Wilson, Nicol Williamson, Brad Dourif
Distributor: Scream Factory
Rated R | 110 Minutes
Release Date: October 25, 2016

“I have dreams of a rose, and falling down a long flight of stairs.”

Written and directed by William Peter Blatty (The Ninth Configuration), The Exorcist III is the latest cult curiosity to receive a two-disc Collector’s Edition Blu-ray from Scream Factory. Released in 1990, the film is based on Blatty’s 1983 novel Legion, which picks up several years later. The “true sequel” to William Friedkin’s 1973 film, The Exorcist III ignores the events of Exorcist II: The Heretic completely, despite its sequential title – the film was originally titled Legion, but was changed by studio executives to make the movie more commercially appealing.

Blu-Ray Review: Scream Factory's Collector's Edition of CHILD'S PLAY

Child’s Play
Blu-ray (Collector’s Edition)
Directed by: Tom Holland
Written by: Don Mancini, John Lafia, Tom Holland
Cast: Catherine Hicks, Chris Sarandon, Alex Vincent, Brad Dourif
Distributor: Scream Factory
Rated R | 87 Minutes
Release Date: October 18, 2016

“Hi, I’m Chucky, and I’m your friend till the end. Hidey-ho!”

Chucky, the pint-sized killer doll from 1988’s Child’s Play, is often mentioned in the same breath as slasher icons like Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger, but there’s something very unique about the denim dungaree-wearing antagonist in Tom Holland‘s film. While films like Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street play on teenage anxieties, punishing high school kids for drinking, smoking marijuana, and having premarital sex, Child’s Play is fixated on the fears of small children.

Five-year-old Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) is entranced by commercials for “Good Guy” dolls on TV. The ads play during a “Good Guy” cartoon series, which Andy watches while wearing his “Good Guy” pajamas and eating “Good Guy” cereal. The commentary on Reagan-era consumerism is hard to miss here. His mom, Karen (Catherine Hicks), a widow struggling to make ends meet, buys Andy a “Good Guy” named Chucky for his sixth birthday, unaware that the doll is a plastic prison for the soul of Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif), a serial killer and voodoo practitioner.

Fender Bender

Director: Mark Pavia
Screenwriter: Mark Pavia
Cast: Makenzie Vega, Cassidy Freeman, Dre Davis, Lora Martinez-Cunningham, Bill Sage
Distributor: Scream Factory
Unrated | 91 Minutes
Release Date: October 4, 2016

“A crash course in terror.”

Written and directed by Mark Pavia (Stephen King’s The Night Flier), Fender Bender is a full-throttle throwback to ’80s slasher flicks. The movie begins with a woman (Cassidy Freeman, Longmire) on the phone, chatting with a friend about the fender bender she got into earlier in the day. She pours a hot bath (and a glass of wine) and tries to unwind, but her relaxing night in is interrupted by a text from the man who rear-ended her.

“Enjoy the bath,” the message reads. Turns out the driver is a deranged killer, stalking women using the personal information they provide during traffic accidents. Dressed in black leather and a bondage mask, the driver stalks the woman through the house before stabbing her to death with a custom-made switchblade with a car door handle – an extension of the black muscle car he uses to pursue his victims.

Distributor: Scream Factory
Rated PG-13 | 117 / 126 / 113 Minutes

Written and directed by Frank LaLoggia, 1988’s Lady in White is a ghost story loosely based on the urban legend of “The White Lady.” Lukas Haas (Inception, Mars Attacks!) stars as Frankie Scarlatti, an inquisitive kid tormented by bullies.

It’s Halloween, 1962, when Frankie is locked inside his school’s cloakroom by domineering middle schoolers Donald (Jared Rushton) and Louie (Gregory Levinson). While trapped inside the dark school, the boy sees something inexplicable: the ghost of a young girl murdered years earlier. The red-headed girl was the first victim of a serial child murderer that has eluded the police of Willowpoint Falls for nearly a decade. Now, the killer is after Frankie. After an unseen assailant attacks the boys and leaves him for dead, the police arrest Harold “Willy” Williams (Henry Harris), the school’s African-American janitor.
