Rogue One: A Star Wars Story may be behind us now, but its post-production stories will live on. Months before its release, the first Star Wars spinoff went through numerous reshoots and rewrites, many of which led to speculation that the film had major issues. While it did go on to be a box office hit for a non-Skywalker saga film, many of the creative forces behind it have spoken out about screenwriters like Tony Gilroy helping to save it and which scenes had to be re-shot. Now original screenwriter Chris Weitz is talking about what changed and what was kept a mystery. As many of you recall, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story went through a series of reshoots last summer. During the course of that time, many were concerned about the timing of these reshoots and script rewrites. Naturally, big budget blockbusters like Rogue One will go through reshoots just to work out any issues the film may have. In the long run, these reshoots helped the film, as it quickly became the third highest grossing film of 2016 in just a matter of a few short weeks. Now the subject of these reshoots has popped up again, as many are wondering what scenes were reshot and what scenes were rewritten. | Yes, There Was Unused Original ‘Star Wars’ Footage In ‘Rogue One’
Apparently plenty of you rebelled over the weekend as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was the number one film, grossing over $290 million worldwide. Many critics were overjoyed by Lucasfilm’s first Star Wars spinoff praising it for being new by mixing in the old — the new being focusing on the untold story of how the plans to the Death Star were stolen, the old being seeing digitized classic characters from the original trilogy. But the old also included some unused footage – that many of us didn’t even notice at the time – from the original 1977 film Star Wars: A New Hope. Check out the full story below.
