Big Ben! The Great Wall of China! The Sphinx! Nowhere on Earth is safe from flying monster sharks. “You see where this is going… right?” That’s all you get in this 20-second teaser for the fifth, yes, fifth installment of the Syfy channel series from B-movie mega producer, The Asylum. Sharknado 5 will span the globe as the shark-fueled natural disasters follow our main characters to various locations hosting climate change summits. Hence, the topical subtitle, “Global Swarming.”

Topical political satire is the trendy thing. Even Netflix’s House of Cards felt cut and pasted out of the newspaper headlines. So with climate change on everyone’s mind, and the same week President Donald Trump withdrew from the Paris Accords, we now get the brand new title for SyFy’s newest entry in the “in”famous Sharknado series… Sharknado 5: Global Swarming! The fifth film will debut on SyFy channel on August 6th, carrying the tagline, “Make America Bait Again.”

Incorporated made its debut last night on SyFy, and perhaps right in time for President-Elect Trump. The show is based in the year 2074 and corporations govern all… freaky right? The series is executively produced by Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Jennifer Todd, and created, written and directed by the Pastor Brothers (Alex and David). They co-wrote the 2015 film Self/less starring Ryan Reynolds, and wrote and directed the underrated and underseen 2009 plague film, Carriers. As we learn in the opening crawl, the world was destroyed thanks to global warming (you hear that PE Trump!), and now the corporations rule, secretly battling over Earth’s dwindling resources. Humanity is divided into zones. Green is good for those working for one of these corporations. Red is for the rest of us.

Good things come to those who wait, and we all have to wait until 2017 (but not too far in) for the second seasons of two of SyFy’s signature series’, The Magicians and The Expanse.
