DVDsWe’re nearing the end of Amazon’s week of HBO deals, with today’s Gold Box spotlight deal being Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Complete Seasons 1-6 on DVD for $89.99 (that’s 62% off the list price $238.98).

This sale is only for today til midnight PST while supplies last.

This deal bundles together the six individual season DVDs (meaning, it’s not a box set). If you do the math (which I typically do), you’ll that that works out to about $15 per season as opposed to the nearly $40 list price — even with Amazon’s usual discount, each season averages around $30. Therefore, this is a huge savings and definitely worth getting if you’re a fan of the series.

For those of you not familiar with this half-hour HBO series, it stars Larry David, who co-created Seinfeld and was the basis for the George Costanza character. In Curb, David plays himself, which if you thought Costanza was outrageous, you should see the “real” Larry David.

Three Men and a Baby

While on the set of his new movie, Steve Guttenberg spoke to WENN and dropped a mega-bomb on the unsuspecting world: Disney is developing a third movie in their Three Men and a Baby franchise called Three Men and a Bride. Wait, wait — it definitely gets better. Guttenberg also claims that, he Ted Danson, AND Tom Selleck are all set to reprise their roles. Oh, thank you…thank you, God.

The 1987 original movie was a hugely popular hit back in its day. It followed a trio of friends who are living the bachelor life in a sweet bachelor pad before a mysterious baby shows up at their door that supposedly belongs to one of them. Hilarity ensues when these completely unfitting fathers attempt to care for the baby and of its glorious baby habits. The film spawned a sequel entitled Three Men and a Little Lady in which the mother comes back and plans to move the kid to London.

DVDsContinuing their week of HBO deals, today’s Gold Box spotlight deal at Amazon is Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Complete Seasons 1-6 for $82.99 (down 65% from $238.98).

If you do the math (which I typically do), you’ll that that works out to less than $14 per season as opposed to the nearly $40 list price — even with Amazon’s usual discount, each season averages around $30.

Most episodes are packed with famous actors, also playing themselves, and typically, Larry David will always put his foot in his mouth and do something extremely inappropriate. It’s funny as hell, but also so cringe-inducing, as you can’t believe some of the things he does. What makes this show really stand out is the fact that the episodes are not scripted. Each episode has a storyline, but then the actors improvise their dialogue, which is what makes the situations they’re in seem all the more real.

Comedians Cheryl Hines and Jeff Garlin (Wall-E) are in character as David’s wife and best friend, respectively, while frequent reoccurring guest stars are Richard Lewis, Ted Danson, and Wanda Sykes (all as themselves).

Body Heat
Blu-ray – 1981
Directed by Lawrence Kasdan
Starring Kathleen Turner, William Hurt, Richard Crenna, Ted Danson, Mickey Rourke
Warner Bros Home Entertainment
Release Date: October 7, 2008

When Body Heat opens, our victim of love is on his balcony peering through the night at a fire from far away. The fire we learn is coming from an inn where Ned, the victim of love, used to eat when he was a young boy. He tells the hooker he hired for the night that his “history is burning up out there. Someone torched it to clear the lot.” He’s miserable and stunned that this has happened. By the film’s end, that restaurant burning will be meaningless because the history that this man will lose will be comparable to a fast-spreading forest fire; he won’t be able to do anything to prevent it.

This all happens because Ned’s love tries to encompass a woman who can’t be loved. There’s no question that Matty (Kathleen Turner) can feel love, but to be loved by her in return would be asking for too much. Right away after Ned (William Hurt) catches a glimpse of her, he falls under her spell. Then-first-time director Lawrence Kasdan makes it a point of recognition when she first appears on screen, drastically singling her out of a crowd. Hookers used to keep Ned busy and satisfied with his average life, but the spell that was cast upon him by Matty ignites a flame of love, passion and a strong willingness to her that can’t be extinguished. He works as a small-time lawyer dealing with small-time issues in a small-time town of Florida, which is suffering from a treacherous heat-wave. In a matter of time he finds himself involved in a case that towers over every case he has ever handled thanks to Matty.
