The first trailer for Big Eyes, the latest film from director Edward Scissorhands and Big Fish director Tim Burton, has been released by The Weinstein Company.

The movie stars Academy Award nominee Amy Adams as artist Margaret Keane, whose paintings of children with large eyes became popular in the ’50s and ’60s…though it was her husband Walter (played by two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz) who claimed to be the creator of the distinctive artworks.

The Adjustment Bureau places Matt Damon as David Norris, a charismatic New York congressman who is running for Senator. Damon looks the part (his exuberance and charm). He can be associated, in the few scenes we see of him running for Senator, with John F. Kennedy. But comparisons are for a later time. When David is practicing his concession speech in a grand bathroom he believes he is alone. A pin or earring hits the floor, catching the attention of David. There emerges out of a stall a beautiful and intoxicating lady, Elise, a professional ballerina played elegantly by Emily Blunt. With ease and delicacy the two begin a conversation as if they’ve been familiar with one another for years.

Fundamentally speaking, the appeal of Tom Cruise in the last few years doesn’t make any sense. Just as soon as he took Katie Holmes hostage and started parading her and her “˜too scared for escape’ look around the world, people seem to have become disinterested in anything he has to do professionally; or so they say. Sure he was great in Tropic Thunder, but I’m talking about the movies he has had to carry on his own. Everyone seems to talk a big game but with the exception of last year’s Lions for Lambs, you have to go all the way back to Magnolia, almost a decade ago, to find a film he starred in that didn’t gross at least $100M domestically. So much for disinterest. Maybe he just has mind control over all of us too.

Keep in mind, these aren’t secrets I am exposing for the first time, so why his pick for his latest project was a big budget WWII Hitler assassination movie is beyond comprehension. For a man so caught up on selling his image, it stands to reason that there would be better ways to spend his time. It ended up being much worse than it appeared on the surface. The release date for Valkyrie moved so many times nobody cared when it was really coming out and as soon as the trailers came out the backlash was already in full effect.

Growing up in the ’90s, I watched the rise of Jim Carrey. From his humble beginnings on the sketch comedy In Living Color (favorite character Fire Marshall Bill), to his break out role in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Carrey became a star right before everyone’s eyes. After that came string of hit movies (Liar, Liar, Bruce Almighty, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and even a few duds (The Majestic, The Number 23). Carrey has since moved on to family oriented films and dramedies, but one cannot deny the comedic talent or overall likability of Carrey as an actor. While not a perfect film, Yes Man is Carrey’s return to slapstick comedy and fans will be pleasantly surprised that Carrey has not lost a step.

Carrey play Carl Allen, a divorced loan officer. Carl’s life is pretty much a downer, from watching videos from Blockbuster in his spare time to avoiding social gatherings. When he realizes his behavior may lead to a lonely existence, he is puts his life in the hands of a Tony Robbins-eque guru Terrence Bundley (General Zod aka Terence Stamp) who encourages him to say “yes” to anything and everything.
