| Now Warner Brothers Passes On Stephen King’s ‘Dark Tower’ With Russell Crowe
Much like the gunslinger’s from Stephen King‘s popular book series, The Dark Tower, the journey of a planned film and TV adaptation has been a long and difficult one. It’s being reported that Warner Brothers has decided not to take on the property, which is being shopped around by Imagine Entertainment’s Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, despite the fact that even Russell Crowe was interested in starring. This comes five months after word that a deal with Warner Brothers was very close.

| Ron Howard Finds New Home For Stephen King’s ‘The Dark Tower’
It was one of the most ambitious plans ever concocted within the realms of entertainment: a trilogy of movies surrounding two seasons of a TV show, all based on author Stephen King‘s popular book series, The Dark Tower. The project had Ron Howard set to direct and Akiva Goldsman set to write the first movie and first season of the show—which would fill in story details and bridge the first two movies—and Oscar winner Javier Bardem attached to star in all three movies and the first season of the TV show (the second season being a prequel that would require a younger actor). Then it all came to a screeching halt when Universal decided they didn’t want to commit to the tremendous project. Now it looks like a brand new home has been found, but will it be the massive adaptation it once was, or will it be trimmed down?

Time to start getting those hopes up people. Just days after producer Brian Grazer revealed that, given a recent budget cut, he, Ron Howard, and Akiva Goldsman’s long-discussed take on the Stephen King series The Dark Tower was getting a second chance at life, the super-producer revealed that the TV side of things may have already found a home. According to an interview with MTV, Grazer revealed that they would be working on the TV project over at HBO, with the film side of things “yet to be determined.”
