The Big Sick

As with all Guilds and Societies in the film industry, the nominations are an indicator of which films are likely to get Academy Award nominations. Get Out, The Shape of Water, Call Me by Your Name, Lady Bird, and The Disaster Artist are among the films that are getting recognition for their performances, writing, and production. All are likely to get more nominations as we get closer to the Academy Awards announcing their own nominations.

Now the nominations for the 2018 WGA Awards have been announced, and they include a couple of surprises. This year, nominations went to films like The Big Sick, Get Out, and The Shape of Water for original screenplay, while Logan, The Disaster Artist, and Molly’s Game get nominated for adapted screenplay. The Shape of Water

The SAG Awards honor and recognize the best the performances of the year, and are often seen as an early indicator of who will win the Academy Awards for Best Actor and Actress, and Best Supporting Actor and Actress. And now that awards season is in full swing we are about to get to see more and more names being nominated for their work.

Following yesterday’s Golden Globe nominees, comes the SAG nominations. “Everybody betrayed me! I’m fed up with this world!”

In 2003, an aspiring actor and filmmaker became a cultural phenomenon with one of the worst movies ever made “” The Room, a torrid melodrama about a love triangle between a banker, his deceptive fiancée, and his conflicted best friend. The film was written, directed, and produced by Tommy Wiseau, an enigmatic outsider with dyed-black hair and an impenetrable foreign accent who also stars as the lead, Johnny.

Hollywood’s curiosity in the independent film was piqued when Wiseau erected a billboard to promote his six million dollar passion project, promising a drama on the level of Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire. Now, the unbelievable true story behind The Room “” often referred to as “The Citizen Kane of Bad Movies” “” is chronicled in a movie-about-a-movie directed by James Franco, who also stars as Wiseau.

The Disaster Artist Tommy Award

There’s been whispers that The Disaster Artist, a movie about the making of Tommy Wiseau‘s infamous movie The Room starring James Franco as Wiseau, could be a contender for the upcoming Academy Awards. And as any fan of Wiseau’s movie will tell you, a movie about that movie winning a damn Oscar, well, that would just be magnificent.

But while we wait to see if the movie will score any nominations, A24 has gone ahead and created their own award. It’s called the Tommy Award, and you (yes, you!) can win it. All you have to do is re-create your favorite scene from The Room…in public…and share it online for the world to see. So I won’t be winning a Tommy Award, and that makes me sad. But you (yes, YOU!) still can. Continue below to find out how, and to check out the latest trailer for The Disaster Artist.
