The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - Bilbo Image

When it comes to The Hobbit, fans of J.R.R. Tolkien‘s books have likely been most curious to see how director Peter Jackson brings to life two of the villains from the book in the now three-part film adaptation.

Those two are of course the primary villain, Smaug the dragon, and the Goblin King, also known as the Great Goblin. Now comes a small peek at what’s assumed to be what this great goblin…in all his grotesque glory.

You can see the image below (don’t proceed if you’d like to avoid minor spoilers), as well as a couple of peeks at the Goblin King’s minions, and a screen capture from the very first Hobbit production diary that may confirm them.

There will be no need to call Peter Jackson‘s conclusion to The Hobbit trilogy The Hobbit 3 any longer because its finally got a new title. Well more like its taking a title. When it was announced that there would be The Hobbit Trilogy, the third and final film had no title. Now The Hollywood Reporter is confirming that the concluding film will be titled The Hobbit: There and Back Again, while the second film will be titled The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

Those are just some of the major developments that’s has been happening since it was confirmed that The Hobbit would be turned into a trilogy. Though it was earlier reported that there was no budget for the film, Warner Brothers seems to believe in Jackson, as they should, that he can give a proper adaptation.

No Additional Charge To See Peter Jackson’s ‘The Hobbit’ At 48 FPS

The Hobbit

Most theaters aren’t equipped to handle Peter Jackson‘s 48 frames-per-second (fps) presentation of The Hobbit, since most of their projectors are 24fps. So to bring in new equipment to handle the new frame rate means new more expensive projects, which means you would have to pay a higher premium to watch The Hobbit in its intended format. But before you decide not to watch the movie, just know that Warner Brothers has worked out a deal where you won’t have to pay a penny more to watch The Hobbit in 48fps.

Because The Hobbit will also be presented in 3D, audiences will already be paying a higher premium, so the decision not to increase the price of the ticket just because of the increased fps was unnecessary. So that’s a little bit of good news for our frugal fans.

The Hobbit

With all the news about The Hobbit being turned into a trilogy spreading in the past few weeks, it was a little bit surprising not to hear director Peter Jackson address some of the issues and concerns about the film and its sequels being presented at 48 frames per second (fps). The projection rate was to have revolutionized the way audiences watched their movies. However, sneak previews of the film at 48fps failed to rile up any positive response. This left Jackson trying to pitch an encouraging spin for the new presentation format.

But that doesn’t seem to be working and now Warner Bros. is considering limiting the release of the 48fps version of The Hobbit: An Unexpected to only select locations. This could mean that major cities like New York and Los Angeles would get to see it in its intended format, while others will be left to watch the film at 24 fps.
