Naughty Dog's The Last of Us

While playing The Last of Us, one of the very best video games 2013 had to offer, did you think to yourself “Gee whiz, I sure would like to see a live stage performance of this!”? Probably not. I mean c’mon now—the set design and construction alone would be too much to ask of anyone.

But for those of you who did think this, there is one chance and one chance only to see something along these lines. This upcoming Monday, July 28th, the main voice cast will take part in a live reading of some of the scenes from the game dubbed The Last of Us: One Night Live. Even better, they’ll be accompanied by Gustavo Santaolalla and his incredible score…which is worth seeing/hearing live alone. Seriously, the music Santaolalla, who already has won two Academy Awards, created could hang with the 2013 Best Original Score Oscar nominees. Not many video games can say that.

You can see a trailer for the live performance, which shares where you can watch online if you’re not one of the lucky few that gets to attend, below, along with a video that looks at Santaolalla’s score.

The Last of Us Remastered Header Image

It’s been assumed for a while now that Naughty Dog’s hit game The Last of Us would eventually get a release on PlayStation 4. It wouldn’t make much sense to release a game that incredible right before people started upgrading from a PS3 to a PS4 and leave it as an exclusive to the older console, even with PlayStation Now on the way.

Today Sony has officially announced The Last of Us Remastered for the PS4, which will run in 1080p and include higher resolution character models, improved shadows and lighting, upgraded textures, and more.

Naughty Dog's The Last of Us

Developer Naughty Dog’s hit video game The Last of Us was not only one of the best games released in 2013—and chosen as the Game of the Year by many, myself included—but, to put it boldly, one of the best ever we the gamers of the world have been fortunate enough to play.

Because of this, it should come as no surprise whatsoever that a movie adaptation of the game is officially in the works. Naughty Dog’s Evan Wells, Christophe Balestra, Neil Druckmann, and Bruce Straley will produce, as well as Sam Raimi through his Ghost House Pictures banner. Screen Gems will distribute the movie.

The Last of Us

If you’ve played developer Naughty Dog’s Game of the Year favorite, The Last of Us, you know how ridiculously good it is. You’re also likely excited for the new story DLC being released for the game, titled “Left Behind,” which will be released on Valentine’s Day (why waste money on flowers and chocolate when you can be playing this?). But would fans be interested in playing The Last of Us 2? That’s exactly what Naughty Dog is currently pondering—the other option being a brand new title.

Whether or not to make a Last of Us sequel is a tricky conundrum to work out. Some would be quite eager to jump into another story involving Joel and Ellie and what’s next for them, no matter what. Others, myself included, feel that—while another game in that world does sound awesome—the original is perfect, and trying to add to it could be damaging to the overall story.

Continue reading to see what Naughty Dog says about what’s next for them, as well as where they stand on The Last of Us being released on PlayStation 4.
