Disney is on a roll with its Legacy Collection titles, which started off with a roar with The Lion King last summer and continues with Pocahontas. The Legacy Collection: Pocahontas demonstrates how capable Walt Disney Records is in producing a standout release that befits the film in which it was based. The Disney animated film, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, may not be among the most popular of its contemporaries, but its music is just as stellar.

Cue the fanfare. Add the trumpets and chorus. The regal Sleeping Beauty: The Legacy Collection was released last month to celebrate the animated film’s 55th anniversary. How does this soundtrack stack up? More importantly, should this music have stayed asleep or been reawakened for new audiences?

Walt Disney Records’ Legacy Collection’s excellent streak of soundtracks continues with its August 2014 release that commemorated the 50th anniversary of Mary Poppins, considered by many critics as one of Walt Disney’s greatest achievements. Its Oscar-winning song, “Chim Chim Cher-ee,” and the other cheerful tunes and score are as ingrained in our minds as Julie Andrews‘ and Dick Van Dyke‘s unforgettable performances.

This new CD set remarkably integrates nearly every musical element of the film possible across three packed discs. The Legacy Collection: Mary Poppins is even sweeter than a spoonful of sugar.
