It seems that Stephen King has been hard at work on a sequel to his epic 1977 tome of supernatural terror The Shining (which was made into a classic horror film in 1980 by Stanley Kubrick starring Jack Nicholson in one of his most iconic performances) called Doctor Sleep. Last Friday King appeared at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, to accept the Mason Award at the school’s Fall for the Book event and during his appearance he entertained his audience by reading a chapter from the forthcoming novel. When planning a vacation it’s always good to make your hotel reservations in advance. While a majority of what we see during each film is often able to be seen right there in the film’s script, it’s the moments that aren’t, the moments of improvisation, the moments of creativity, that are forever remembered in the history books.

In one of the more strange and unexpected news bits we’ve heard in a long while, it would appear that author and horror mastermind Stephen King has an idea for a potential sequel to his classic The Shining. Many would argue the book to be King’s best work and no one can deny that it is at least one of them; many others would argue that the movie based on the book was the best adaptation of his many titles — though it received a lot of negative reviews initially and even King himself openly admitted to hating it before it moved on to become one of the top horror movies ever to be made.

King made the subtle announcement while in Toronto reading some of his new book Under the Dome to a crowd at the Canon Theater. The writer was in no way announcing that a sequel would indeed happen, but he decided to share the ideas that he was actually playing around with in his head, including that he had a basic title in mind already: Doctor Sleep.

From writer/director David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight) comes a new supernatural horror film, The Unborn, which stars Gary Oldman (Harry Potter), Cloverfield‘s Odette Yustman, and Twilight‘s Cam Gigandet. In the film, which opened this weekend, a possessed child whispers, “Some people are doorways.”

Typically, the children in horror movies are either the unwilling messengers of doom or are evil themselves. Either way, the dialogue these kids have to spout is usually pretty eerie and often not something you’d want to hear coming out of the mouths of babes.
