E3 2010: Leonard Nimoy Stars In ‘The Terminator’ With ‘Yoostar 2’ Movie Karaoke

Leonard Nimoy may have retired from acting on us, but that’s not stopping him from doing some top-notch fake acting. If you haven’t heard of the game Yoostar, it’s basically just like karaoke…but instead of singing, you get to put yourself right in the lead roles of your favorite movies of all time.

At E3 this week, Yoostar 2 was being shown off, and stars from Star Trek old and new were there to help test it out. The game runs using Microsoft’s motion system once known as Project Natal and now known as Kinect, recording your image, placing it where the familiar star of the movie usually stands as you read your lines on the screen. After, you can go back and now watch your Oscar-winning re-performance.

To test the game, Nimoy threw on some shades and stepped in front of the TV where he became none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Terminator. Nimoy read the lines from the famous “I’ll be back” scene, and then watched it played back.

Continue reading on to see Leonard Nimoy trying out Yoostar 2 and an interview after along with Trek co-star Zoe Saldana.

Terminator Salvation Playstation 3Terminator: Salvation
Genre: Action/Shooter
Rating: T for Teen
Platform: Playstation3
Platform: Evolved Games
Publisher: Warner Bros.

As I like to do with just about everything I review, I’m going to open this review up with some full disclosure. I feel it allows you, the reader, to understand more fully where I, the reviewer, am coming from.

Ah, the Terminator franchise. I’ve had a love/hate relationship with it for as long as I can remember. Like pretty much everyone else, I thought the first film was amazing. The premise, the violence, the effects”¦ it all just worked. Then came T2, which pushed the effects envelope even further, turned the story on its ear by making the bad guy from the first film the good guy, and giving Hollywood a much needed badass female lead. But it had Edward Furlong and some goofy moments that kept it from being the classic I thought it could have been. T3 was such a mockery of the first 2 that I pretty much swore the franchise off. And then when McG (god it pains me to even type that as his “˜name’) came on board for Terminator: Salvation, I knew all hope was lost. In a nutshell, I think the franchise had a brilliant premise the collapses under the weight of the time-travel paradox, suffers from being a parody of itself at times, and can’t find the right fit to bring it to the glory it deserves.

All of that being said, I think The Terminator is the absolute PERFECT fit for a kick ass, thrill ride of a sci-fi game. There are so many ways it could go”¦ First Person Shooter, Role Playing, Real-Time Strategy, open sandbox style ala Grand Theft Auto.

T-800

Since Terminator Salvation was released a couple of weeks ago, it seemed like the unbelievable amounts of images, trailers, TV spots, and various others types of news would finally be coming to an end. Instead, in a bit of a surprise twist, Warner Brothers has decided to release at least one more new TV spot and throw us all off!

The newest TV spot is just like all of the others…until the end, that is. Toward the end, you will get a little peek (if you haven’t already seen the movie, of course) of what the digitally-added Arnold Schwarzenegger that they used looks like in action. As you’ll recall, the biggest question throughout production was: is Arnie involved, and if so, how? (Read: Is Digital Arnold Schwarzenegger A Good Move For ‘Terminator Salvation’?) Here is your definitive answer.

We knew there could be voice-over, and that they might even attempt a digital version of the California Governor in order to ensure his younger image from the original The Terminator. Actually, color me shocked, but he looks pretty decent — especially the very first image in this spot. The second is a little more fake looking, but better than I expected, all-around.

Continue reading to check out the trailer. If you haven’t seen the movie and want this to be more of a surprise, just ignore it, but aside from the reveal, there’s no real spoilers to worry about.

Week of Geek: Terminator Salvation

I’m going to assume that 99.9% of us have seen at least The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, if not Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines as well. If you have not, and you’re planning on seeing Terminator Salvation this week, then Geeks of Doom is your place to make sure you at least have some kind of an idea of what the hell is going on.

Keep in mind — I can absolutely promise you that Salvation and any others ever made will not be anywhere near as good as the first two, and I strongly urge you to see them first; but if you just don’t have time and have to get you some Christian Bale action now, hopefully this will help out a little.

Before you continue here, be sure to check out our own BAADASSSSS!’s in-depth and thoughtful retrospect of 1984’s The TerminatorA Look Back At James Cameron’s “˜The Terminator’. Go ahead, I’ll wait.

OK, now that you’ve read up on the first movie, here’s the promised quick recaps of both T2 and T3 so that you can complete the Zelda tri-force and be fully prepared to see Terminator Salvation!
