NYCC 2017: Amazon Prime Video’s ‘The Tick’ Dangerboat Experience

If one thing can be said about The Tick is that its title hero has an eclectic list of allies and villains. At this year’s New York Comic-Con, one such ally was showcased in a big way. Dangerboat, the talking sidekick and headquarters to the vigilante known as Overkill, was set up on the convention’s main show floor, allowing fans to take part in an interactive experience within the sentient warcraft. Pfeff-Bot and I had the chance to explore Dangerboat at length. Read below to find out what the experience was like!

Comics For Free Comic Book Day 2017
|
 |

Well, folks, it is that time again. It’s time for Free Comic Book Day! On May 6, 2017, comic and book shops across the known ‘verse will offer up exclusive comics to patrons for free. But it’s not just about dropping in and grabbing free loot and bailing. No, friends, this is the day you need to get out and show your appreciation for these stores. Because while the comics are free to you, they are not free to the shopkeepers. They buy those for distribution as a way of thanking us for our business. And what better way to pay it forward is there than to drop a few bucks in their businesses? I’ll leave it to you and your conscience, but know that what you do on FCBD will affect what the shops are able to do in the future. My local comic shop closed, certainly you would not want the same fate for yours, would you? Click here to find a participating comic shop near you!
But all the peer pressure aside, let us take a look at what the day will bring us in the way of comics. But remember, every shop may not have every title.

‘The Tick’: First Look At Peter Serafinowicz In Amazon’s Live-Action Reboot Pilot

In March, it was announced that Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television were developing a pilot for a live-action series based on Ben Edlund‘s superhero spoof comic book The Tick, with Edlund scripting and serving as an executive producer and British comedic genius Peter Serafinowicz (Shaun of the Dead, Guardians of the Galaxy) cast in the title role. The pilot was directed by Wally Pfister, the cinematographer on all three of Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies, Inception, and Moneyball.
Recently Amazon released both the premiere date for the pilot and a small set of images, including our first look at Serafinowicz is full Tick attire. You can check out the pictures here below.

‘The Tick’ TV Show: Peter Serafinowicz Cast In Title Role For Amazon Series
|
 |

Back in 2001 a live-action TV series based on Ben Edlund‘s comic The Tick was made with Seinfeld, Family Guy, and The Emperor’s New Groove star Patrick Warburton playing the title role. The show aired on Fox and, as shows tend to do there, only lasted nine episodes (related note #1: Edlund also worked on that other show you think of when you think of Fox shows that were canceled too early, Firefly, writing the episodes “Trash” and “Jaynestown” and also producing). But even with its short run, the show has developed a cult following.
While that show isn’t coming back to life, Amazon has ordered a pilot episode for a potential brand new series based on Edlund’s Tick character. Nothing is official yet as far as getting a full series order, but an actor has been chosen to take over the role from Warburton. It’s being reported that comedian, actor, writer, and all-around talented gentleman Peter Serafinowicz will take on the title role for the pilot.

Geek Find: Mucus Tick Action Figure
Idle Hands and Shocker Toys have joined forces to create the first Idle Hands exclusive action figure — MUCUS TICK!!
Mucus Tick appeared in an episode of the classic Tick animated series called “The Tick vs. The Uncommon Cold” where the Tick had an Uncommon Cold. An evil alien took his mucus and gave it life. So, basically, it’s a Tick made of snot. This was a very gross yet memorable episode of the Tick series.
Essentially, this action figure is a variant edition of the Shocker Toys Indie Spotlight Series 2 Tick figure painted translucent green to resemble mucus. The action figure is a limited edition with only 1,000 figures made. Mucus Tick went on sale today Friday May 28, 2010 at 10AM East Coast Time. Mucus Tick is available in the Shocker Toys Web Store.
