Last week, Titan Books announced that novelist Greg Cox is set to pen the official novelization of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. You can now pre-order the paperback* edition of the novelization; the book will also be available for the Kindle this July.

One notable piece of information here is that this is the first novelization of the Christopher Nolan Batman films that legendary comics scribe Dennis O’Neil has not written. Fans of these Batman novelizations shouldn’t worry though, because Cox is no stranger to the concept. Cox has previously written novelizations of other comic book-related work such as Infinite Crisis, Countdown, Final Crisis, as well as novels based on properties like Star Trek, Underworld, Warehouse 13, and original tie-in novels based on Terminator: Salvation and CSI, so his work should be at home with the adaptation of The Dark Knight Rises.

The Company of the Dead is quite an ambitious debut by obstetrician/gynecologist-turned-novelist, David J. Kowalski. This vivid sci-fi-military-thriller packs a lot of punch. Clocking in at 744 pages of dense multiple storylines that span a century of regular and alternative world history, Kowalski submerges us in the mysteries involving the original sinking of the Titanic in 1912 and many subsequent sinkings that occur.

Jonathan Wells, a doctor who is either earnest and well-intentioned or utterly mad, discovers a time machine quite accidentally when he’s called upon to perform emergency surgery at a secret government compound in Nevada. When things go south and he’s about to be shot, he escapes in the time machine with Dr. Gershon, another main character, thus kick-starting a century-long wild game of fix and re-fix.

Titan Books has released The Company Of The Dead, an original novel sci-fi novel by David Kowalski, in Paperback and Kindle.

In the novel, which came out today, March 13, 2012, after a man travels back in time and stops the Titanic disaster, the history of the United States is now changed, with the country being occupied by Germany and Japan. Now, the title group attempt to restore history back its original state.

For every movie that gets released each year hundreds or thousands more don’t even make it past the script stage. Some even get cancelled just as filming is about to begin. It’s all part of working in the business. Writers know this. Those who are just starting out with dreams of one day writing for the movies scour trade publications such as Daily Variety and Hollywood Reporter and camp out in Internet chat rooms and film fan forums to read in wide-eyed wonder at the joy they found in news stories about young screenwriters who sold their first script to a major studio for untold sums of money.
