‘Tammy’ Trailer: An Angry Melissa McCarthy Channels Shia LeBeouf

Melissa McCarthy stars in Ben Falcone's Tammy

Road trip comedies aren’t entirely original, although the characters try to make each and every adventure their own. Melissa McCarthy will be starring in her very own road trip comedy, directed by her husband, Ben Falcone. In it, McCarthy plays as a recently fired fast food employee who finds out that her husband has been cheating on her, and her only method of coping is to go on a road trip with her grandmother (Susan Sarandon).

Again, not completely original, but the star power is there, which give us some hope that it will be at least a mild success. Hit the jump to see the trailer.

Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, Academy Award winners for their screenplay of Alexander Payne’s The Descendants, have written, produced, and directed a delightful coming-of-age film with The Way, Way Back.

The film stars Liam James as Duncan, a 14-year-old introvert who goes on summer vacation with his mother Pam (Toni Collette), her new boyfriend Trent (Steve Carell), and his daughter Steph (Zoe Levin).

When we first meet Duncan, he’s riding in the “way back” of a vintage station wagon driven by Trent, who is sizing him up in the rearview mirror. Trent asks Duncan how he rates himself on a scale of one to ten. When Duncan answers six, Trent tells him he’s a three. He expects Duncan to use his time at the beach house this summer to “get that score up.” What a jerk.

Hitchcock Header

Production for any film will have its fair share of problems on the set. The new Sacha Gervasi-directed drama Hitchcock will shed light on the kinds of problems that Alfred Hitchcock (Anthony Hopkins) experienced on and off the set of his greatest thriller Psycho.

Check out the first trailer for the film here below.

This latest biopic only covers the period of time in which Hitchcock was trying to get Psycho from development to production to full release. There are many conflicts that stand in Hitchcock’s way. People believe he is past his prime, there are production issues on set, and his romanced interest Alma Reville (Helen Mirren) believes she is being overshadowed by Hitchcock’s greatness. Scarlett Johansson will play Janet Leigh, while Danny Huston, Toni Collette, Jessica Biel, Michael Stuhlbarg, and James D’Arcy provide supporting roles.

By now we should all be familiar with the drill: whether we like it or hate it, Hollywood will and is remaking everything they can get their hands on, and that’s because people pay lots and lots of money to see them. So, knowing that, we might as well at least remain open to the possibility that every now and again a remake will be done properly (the Coen’s True Grit, for example) and in-turn, be worth our time and our money.

A good place to find remakeable properties appears to be the ’80s horror genre. Though the horror movies of that time are beloved by many, they’re not always exactly “good” and often ooze hints of the decade in which they were made, and so they do not age very well at all. With a little love and care and today’s technologies, however, a cheesy ’80s horror flick can be turned into quite the little terror. So when it comes to a remake of ohhh, say…Fright Night, for example, is said love and care and technology put to good use, or does another bite the dust?

Fright Night 2011

DreamWorks has released three brief new clips from their much-touted 3D remake of Fright Night, directed by Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl) and written by Marti Noxon (I Am Number Four), at the film’s YouTube channel. EW has an exclusive clip, while IGN has an exclusive red band clip.

You can check them out below this article.

There’s not much in the way of action or juicy gore on display in the YouTube videos, but in two of the clips we do get to see more of former Doctor Who star David Tennant as Peter Vincent, the reluctant vampire killer played by the late Roddy McDowall in the 1985 original. The IGN clip on the other hand features some intense action, flying dirt bikes, and a cool unbroken 360 degree interior tracking shot, while the EW clip shows what happens when a vampire comes up against a cross.
