Halloween is almost here! And a fun thing to do for Halloween is to scare up some treats. The folks over at Just A Pinch have a simple, easily assembled sugary project that’s perfect for the holiday — Vampire Teeth Cookies!

With just 4 very basic ingredients, you can put together these cookies that look so cute and realistic, too! Just get some store-bought chocolate chip cookies (or bake your own if you have the time and inclination), red icing, mini marshmallows, and almond slivers – that’s it!

Everyone’s favorite skimpily-clad, sexpot vampire is back in a brand new comic book entitled Vampirella: Southern Gothic #1! She’s gone through a myriad of changes over the decades, but one thing always remains the same, Vampi continuously manages to kick the crap out of whatever she faces. And now, after so many adventures on this world and others, she finds herself in the deep south. Mississippi, to be exact…

Following a pretty awesome battle with a few dozen shoe-stealing demons, our heroine decides to take a break to heal from an especially nasty wound. As sleep becomes her primary focus, she is roused from her impending slumber by a call on her mobile phone. After a bit of a flashback, the reader is able to identify the caller as Jacob, a former lover who is in a bit of a pickle. Traveling by train (who travels by train these days? Badass vampires, that’s who), Vampirella arrives in Mississippi to find Jacob awaiting her with a story about a woman who has died under different names a total of 37 times (insert funny Kevin Smith/Clerks reference here). While making a pit stop for some breakfast, we finally find out the connection between Jacob and the multiple resurrected woman. I’m not going to spoil the story but he is definitely dedicated to the lady in question.

Dracula My LoveDracula, My Love
By Syrie James
HarperCollins
Release Date: July 20, 2010
Paperback | Paperback (discount*) | Kindle

If when you read Dracula by Bram Stoker you wished you could get into the head of one of the characters and get an intimate first-person account, then you’re in luck. Dracula, My Love is a revisionist novel that retells Stoker’s novel from the point of view of Mina Harker (neé Murray). The author, Syrie James, is no stranger to this subset of the historical fiction subgenre, having produced such novels as The Lost Memoirs of Charlotte Brontë and The Lost Memoirs of Jane Austen. Through beautifully written prose, she tackles the chain of events in Dracula from Mina’s mind and presents what happened in a highly defined manner that gives new context to the original.

Thankfully, it’s not told in the epistolary format, through diary entries, or through newspaper clippings. Instead, the reader gets Mina’s recollections after the fact. Although there are some changes and additions to Mina and to her history, as well as the sequence of events, James hasn’t made too many departures from Stoker’s tale and she has, for the most part, lent a sense of discovery that fans will gobble up. She presents a fresh new look that considers many different angles.

Lucy’s sleepwalking problems are more drawn out in this novel, and a focal point of the plot. But if you’re expecting a lesbian makeout scene a la Francis Ford Coppola’s 1993 interpretation of Dracula, you won’t find it in this book.

Kevin Monroe‘s take on the comic series Dylan Dog, first created by Italian talent Tiziano Slavi, only bears some resemblance to its origins, but is at moments a film based in fun with a wide variety of homages.

Added to Netflix’s streaming selection quite literally just before Thanksgiving, Dylan Dog: Dead Of Night is the category of flick to watch if you enjoy movies in the vein of Indiana Jones or detective mysteries. The feature is essentially a tip of the hat to old style film-noir detective/mystery movies, based within the world of monsters and the unnatural.
