The Last Man On Earth returned last week for their 2nd season, after being one of the breakout hits during their first. Phil Miller (Will Forte) had been banished by the residents of Tucson, after being the founder in a post-virus world. Phil #2 threatened to kill him if he ever showed his face again. Carol (Kristen Schaal), his ex-wife, decided to leave with him (#1), even though she loved her friends Melissa, Todd, Phil Miller #2, Erica, and Gail (January Jones, Mel Rodriguez, Boris Kodjoe, Cleopatra Coleman, and Mary Steenburgen). And somewhere in space, Phil #1’s brother (Jason Sudeikis) is stuck and alone. Last week, after some fun in the White House, Phil and Carol got into a big fight, and after he accidentally left her at a gas station, he could not remember which one. So he braved death, went to Tucson… and found nothing (except his burnt down house).

The Last Man On Earth‘s 2nd season premieres tonight and it’s a whole different ballgame now. At the end of last season, Phil Miller (Will Forte) had been banished from Tucson by its 6 other residents. New Phil Miller (Boris Kodjoe) had taken him there rather roughly. Carol (Kristen Schaal) returned to him because they belonged together. That was a fist pumping in the air, “Yeah!” moment. They drove off. Cut to: space and Jason Sudeikis is an astronaut named Miller who’s searching for life on Earth from his space station.

The Last Man On Earth season 2 returns this Sunday, and the funniest apocalyptic characters return with it. Last season found Phil Miller (Will Forte), as the last man on Earth (or so he thought), until he met Carol (Kristen Schaal), whom he married, Melissa (January Jones), whom he lusted after, Todd (Mel Rodriguez), who dated Melissa, Gail and Erica (Mary Steenburgen and Cleopatra Coleman), and the other Phil Miller (Boris Kodjoe), all in his hometown of Tucson. Phil did nothing right becuase he was so often morally wrong, and he ended up banished. At the end, Carol still loved him and they left Tucson together. Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg hosted the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards tonight live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, CA, and not surprisingly, his opening monologue took aim at some today’s most popular television stars as well as some not so hot celebrities (Jared, Cosby, and so on).

Before the Emmys 2015 live monologue, the SNL alum opened the show with a star-studded pre-recorded video where he’s overwhelmed by questions about which TV shows he’s seen. Turns out, Samberg has a lot of catching up to do (I think we can all relate to this), so to rectify the situation, he holes himself up in a bunker and binge watches EVERY show. When he finally emerges, he breaks out into song about how he completed this major tasks. Sadly, he learns from Castle‘s Nathan Fillion that he forgot actually one show (back to the bunker!).

Samberg’s former SNL cast mate and current fellow FOX TV star Will Forte (Last Man on Earth) shows up in the video for an homage to Les Miserables, and the host ends the video with a song and dance number.

When last we saw Phil Miller and Carol Pilbasian (Will Forte and Kristen Schaal), she had come to the desert to run away with him, after he got banished from Tucson by the other Phil Miller (Boris Kodjoe) and the gang. She realized that despite his lying, cheating (or attempts thereof), narcissism, and basically morally inept character, they belonged to each other. He had realized this way before, when hot Phil Miller and she got it on.
