Last Man On Earth 202 Header

The Last Man On Earth
Season 2 Episode 2: “The Boo”
Created by Will Forte, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller
Starring Will Forte, January Jones, Kristen Schaal, Mel Rodriguez, Cleopatra Coleman, Mary Steenburgen, Boris Kodjoe, Jason Sudeikis
FOX
Air Date: Sunday, October 4th, 2015, 9:30pm

The Last Man On Earth returned last week for their 2nd season, after being one of the breakout hits during their first. Phil Miller (Will Forte) had been banished by the residents of Tucson, after being the founder in a post-virus world. Phil #2 threatened to kill him if he ever showed his face again. Carol (Kristen Schaal), his ex-wife, decided to leave with him (#1), even though she loved her friends Melissa, Todd, Phil Miller #2, Erica, and Gail (January Jones, Mel Rodriguez, Boris Kodjoe, Cleopatra Coleman, and Mary Steenburgen). And somewhere in space, Phil #1’s brother (Jason Sudeikis) is stuck and alone. Last week, after some fun in the White House, Phil and Carol got into a big fight, and after he accidentally left her at a gas station, he could not remember which one. So he braved death, went to Tucson… and found nothing (except his burnt down house).

Beware of slight spoilers for tonight’s episode below.

When you watch the episode, the title, “The Boo,” will be crystal clear. It comes accompanied by a new guest star (you will squeal as I did).

While waiting for Phil to come find her (and getting more disheartened as time goes on), you can see that she and Phil are more alike than we first thought. She’s a Carol-ish Phil. Unless maybe we would all turn into Phils in the same situation. She’s eating disgusting things out of jars, completely uncaring of hygiene, talking to inanimate objects, making friends – no, not making new human friends. She’s actually constructing figures that she can talk to.

Phil’s focus in the episode is to try and figure out how to communicate with Carol. We know he is an out-of-the-box thinker, and we get another bunch of scenes of him imaginatively figuring out how to find her.

Do they find each other? I’m not giving away that big a spoiler!

I will tell you that the mystery of empty Tucson is solved this episode, and that Phil ends up with another of his moral dilemmas at some point in this 1/2 hour. But I’m not telling you what it is or which side he ends up falling on.

I enjoyed this week even more than last week. I felt disappointment when the credits rolled. I need to know what happened after that end!

The Last Man On Earth airs Sunday nights at 9:30pm on FOX.
