Last week‘s Brooklyn Nine-Nine came back strong for their 3rd season. Holt (Andre Braugher) and the 99th Precinct are still apart, but that doesn’t mean the laughs have to stop. Jake and Amy (Andy Samberg and Melissa Fumero) decided to keep things casual (you know-after the kiss), with Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) almost on to them, until Jake makes up an imaginary gym floozy. Things escalate much further. Wunch (guest star Kyra Sedgwick) delights in the PR position torture of Holt. He ends up in a pigeon costume, yet still dignified. At least he has Gina (Chelsea Peretti). Bill Hader guested last week as the “New Captain,” but quickly died. Does not take a rocket scientist to figure out who “The Funeral” of this week is for. And that is what this episode is about – comedy against a funeral backdrop. Fun!
A couple of spoilers below. Proceed with caution!
To the surprise of no one and the delight of everyone, the gang acts inappropriately as much as possible at the funeral. The toast(s) in the bar afterward are fantastic.
Their new boss is “The Vulture,” and he is definitely a douche. Come on… who still loves puka shells? On top of that, something Jake does gets him put on the bad side, and that puts his new relationship (yes I said relationship) with Amy in jeopardy.
Gina and Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) try to talk Charles into being who he is in a relationship. They are awesomely creeped out by his responses, as expected.
Terry (Terry Crews) is the winner of this episode. The episode winner is the one who makes me laugh out loud the most. Watch him after one drink. It’s below in the promo, so I feel free to spill – dancing in a undershirt – boom! And watch his fixation with mango yogurt.
Holt is still feeling bad, but gets a chance to feel good once again, despite his sucky position… “Pain!!” He does save the day.
My criticism of this episode is the only one I ever have. Gina did not get enough “Gina” lines to shine.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine airs Sunday nights at 8:30pm ET on FOX.
