Well, if you love trailers, today is the day for you. Many highly anticipated titles are showing off how they look, and the biggest of them all might just be Green Lantern.
A sneak peek at the trailer was revealed recently, but now you can see the whole thing. And judging by how it looks, you get the feeling people are either going to be very excited for the DC Comics adaptation, or be pretty underwhelmed. It will all really depend upon how you feel about computerized enhancements.
The movie stars Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, a pilot who discovers an alien crash site and is given the all-powerful ring, making him a member of the Green Lanterns. The trailer isn’t shy about showing off the world they’ve created, as well as the many Green Lanterns we’ll see, a brief peek at Sinestro (Mark Strong), and solid look at Dr. Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard).
Be sure to click on over to the other side now to read a synopsis for the movie and to check out the new trailer for Green Lantern. Don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comments below!
Green Lantern is directed by Martin Campbell, and is set for release on June 17, 2011.
SYNOPSIS
In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.
Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.
I agree about it looking better than I thought it would, especially after seeing the Entertainment Tonight commercial. Not sure about Blake Lively though. Is she even an actress? Very unconvincing when she reprimanded Hal before the test flight. Aaaand…I still think it looks like someone photoshopped a Green Lantern costume onto Ben Stiller…but I’d watch this.
Liked the trailer a lot (not that impressed with Blake Lively, though). I think they’re very brave for going the “light effect” route with the costumes, and it looks damn cool.
It’s funny, I was thinking that Reynolds is like a combination of Ben Stiller and Jason Lee.
CGI, etc. aside… the big question that I have is portraying Hal as a guy who definitely has fear. It seems like a nod to Kyle Rayner, the kid who overcame great fear. Hal is normally extremely self-confident, even a bit cocky. Reynolds version seems to be neither, which makes me think they’ve grafted a lot of Kyle’s personality onto this movie version of Hal.
My prediction: Reynold’s is going to make this movie mediocre. He just can’t do anything but sound sarcastic even when he tries to be serious.
This was one of the biggest mistakes in casting in years and I am with burning_chrome’s post on this one….Nathan MotherF’ing Fillian.
Trailer looks decent and I agree that Blake Lively can’t act, or maybe it was one bad scene.
I don’t remember her from anything else, but in that snippet her anger wasn’t convincing at all.
I don’t mind the CG suit, but it is too neon shiny.
Oh an I would of loved to have Nathan MotherF’ing Fillian play as Hal.

Uhhhhh, I’m not a big fan of Green Lantern, but Nathan Fillion should have been Hal Jordan, no question.
For some reason I’m reminded of Robert Townsend’s “Meteor Man” from way back when after viewing the trailer.

Well, this looks better than I anticipated. Still not holding my breath though. And he still looks like Green Automan.

Looks fun. But will it be enough to get me to care about Green Lantern? Doubt it.

If Hal starts doodling, it’ll be a dead giveaway.
