Depressing as it may be, Fox and whoever else that has had the opportunity have still not realized the must-happen decision that needs to be made to bring Firefly back from the dead. Proving that even the actors involved in the show are just as faithful to that “you can’t take the sky from me” mentality as us crazy Browncoat fans, Captain Malcolm Reynolds (Nathan Fillion) himself has been bringing plenty of Serenity flare to his current gig, Castle. It began with random and subtle references to Firefly as well as other Joss Whedon work like Buffy, but in the latest episode of Castle, Fillion took to a whole new level.
You see, this week’s episode was the Halloween episode, and what better costume for Richard Castle — the mystery novelist-turned NYPD aide — than Captain Mal? The episode is hilarious right off the bat with Fillion getting his costume on and jumping into a room like a superhero where a girl who I assume is his daughter says “Didn’t you wear that like five years ago? Don’t you think you should move on?”, to which he replies “I like it.”
You can click on over to the other side right now to watch the episode of Castle entitled “Vampire Weekend” in its entirety.
I’ve yet to watch the episode, but there is definitely more Mal to be seen in it. As I’ve said before, as far as I’m concerned, cop, hospital, and forensic shows are so sickeningly over-done that it’s hard to enjoy any of them, but for this occasion, it’s absolutely worth watching.
UPDATE: The full episode has been pulled, but here’s the Firefly bit.

I highly recommend the show. I too really am not into cop shows, but this one feels different. More romantic comedy that knows its cheesy. What’s really great is the cast as a whole. You already know The Fillion can play the older brother/father type (see Mal/Kaylee), so seeing him as a father to the red head you saw is totally natural and believable. When season one hits on DVD, Netflix it. It’s good times.

This show is one of my favorites on TV right now. Fillion is fantastic in his role as the world-famous novelist Richard “Rick” Castle, and has so much fun with the role, the viewer can’t help but join in.
The Season 1 DVD came out last month around the middle of the month (I have it at home), so Netflix it now if you can! I guarantee, you won’t be disappointed. I was sad to see the article lump this one in with the other “cop, hospital, and forensic shows” that are “sickeningly overdone”. I think Castle breathes a breath of fresh air into the whole genre.

I’ll have to check it out.
Don’t get me wrong: anything with Fillion is something I will watch, and it doesn’t mean that every cop show is awful; it’s just difficult to get into them with so many out there.

This is a great show. Don’t think of it so much as a cop show, but as a murder mystery writer tagging along with cops show. And no, it’s nothing like “Murder She Wrote”!!
The best quote of that show “ Space Cowboy!”

Actually his daughter gets best line. (paraphrasing)
“Okay 1) there are no cows in space. 2) Didn’t you wear that five years ago*? Just let it go.**”
“I like it!”
*(Serenity)
**(Often told to rabid Browncoats that really do need to settle down)
