It was November of 2008 when we started learning of castings for some of the many Greek mythology projects that were being developed. Two of these projects were Brett Ratner’s adaptation of popular video game God of War; the other was director Tarsem Singh‘s War of Gods (which is also apparently called Dawn of War, too).
Since that time, the Ratner God of War project crumbled and died, and we haven’t really heard much from War of Gods until today; it’s being reported that Freida Pinto has been cast as the female lead in the movie. Pinto recently burst onto the scene as Latika, the inspirational love interest in Best Picture-winning Danny Boyle film, Slumdog Millionaire. The actress joins Henry Cavill (The Tudors), who has long been attached to the lead role of Theseus.
The movie follows Theseus (Cavill), who discovers that he’s the son of a king and must join the gods in their epic battle to stop the newly-freed Titans, who have unleashed demons to help them defeat the gods and reclaim power. Pinto will be playing Phaedra, an oracle priestess who helps Theseus on his quest.
Tarsem Singh (typically just referred to as “Tarsem”) is known for his incredibly visual style, which includes movies like The Cell and The Fall.
Charley Parlapanides and Vlas Parlapanides wrote the script, and War of Gods hopes to begin production as early as April.
