Mark Millar, creator of many of the most talked about comic books of recent memory including Kick-Ass, Nemesis, Old Man Logan, and Civil War, has posted an interesting auction on Ebay for his next creation, Superior. In this auction, Millar has left it to fans and do-gooders alike to name the title character’s secret identity, all in the name of charity.
In the past, Millar has held auctions for roles in Kick-Ass and Nemesis on behalf of special needs units in a school where his brother, Dr. Bobby Millar, has tirelessly raised money for many handicapped children, and the Superior auction is no exception.
Millar describes his motivations:
“Resources are tight at all schools and hospitals in the current economic climate, but we had great success with the Kick-Ass and Nemesis auctions, and hopefully we can raise a similar sum again with this opportunity. To star as a comic-book hero is pretty cool and the intense movie-studio and production-company interest for “Superior” should bode well that whoever wins this auction will get their name out there in many other media too. Dave Lizewski is now an action figure and movie icon as well as a comic-book character and both Matt Anderson and Blake Morrow are delighted to find themselves as the leads in the upcoming Tony Scott adaptation of Nemesis. This could be your big chance and whatever money I receive from the auction will be added to with a private donation of my own and given to the school to celebrate the new term ahead.”
This auction is a really cool idea, your name becomes immortalized in comics (and probably film), and you’re doing it for a truly noble cause, so if you’ve got the money to pitch in, go for it. You would be helping out people who really need it.
That is a really nice and cool thing for him to do. I wonder how high the bidding will go.
