We all know things haven’t gone so well for The Terminator franchise since James Cameron’s incredible sequel, Terminator 2: Judgment Day hit theaters in 1991.
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines wasn’t unwatchable, but also wasn’t anywhere near what the first two movies were. Then came Terminator: Salvation, the fourth installment directed by McG, which delivered very impressive trailers and a lot of high hopes from fans but ultimately proved unworthy to the tune of millions of furious faithfuls.
Halcyon, the company behind Salvation, went bankrupt not too long after the release of the movie, and the rights to the Terminator franchise were later acquired by another company named Pacificor — though no future projects have been officially announced at the moment.
So what does Gale Anne Hurd — co-writer of the original and producer of the first three titles, as well as current producer on AMC’s The Walking Dead — think of what has become of her shared brainchild? Well, she’s not too excited about it.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Hurd shared her thoughts on the franchise and if she’d be interested in doing another, saying “It’s very sad. You feel like you gave birth to something and it’s been adopted and those adoptions haven’t worked out. Of course I’d be interested in doing another one. I’d love it.”
Whether this will ever happen or not remains to be seen, but let’s hope that if another Terminator movie ever happens, someone is smart enough to involve Hurd. Just having someone passionate about that world and its characters would surely help immensely.
That said, most would probably be happy never seeing another film made (unless guaranteed it would be great…which is a tad difficult to promise) and continuing to simply go back and watch the original two that still hold up perfectly well to this day.
Save the franchise? No. She forgot to mention: Keep my bank account from going negative.

Since NeverWanderer brought it up … I too believe that TERMINATOR: The Sarah Connor Chronicles TV series was a far better homage to James Cameron’s first two Terminator films, than either T3 or T:Salvation.
The difference? Obviously it is the character of Sarah Connor herself – who was, essentially, the heart of the first two films. (Granted, that heart was much stonier the second go round.) Lena Headey (who looks like a cross between Linda Hamilton and Shania Twain – hubba, hubba) did a fine job filling Sarah’s shoes – not an easy task considering it is Linda Hamilton’s signature role.
I’m not sure another Terminator film would work without (somehow) bringing Sarah back (even the TV show was essentially an alternate timeline), and also having Cameron at the helm. Given the success of Avatar, and its impending sequels, this is not likely to happen.
C’est la Vie. We’ll always have T1 and T2.

Seems like the major problem is getting someone with talent to direct. Jonathan Mostow and a guy that sounds like a rapper? Come on! what did you think you were going to get?

I like the idea of a “Re-boot sequel” I know the chances are slim to none, but who knows. Just ditch the previous two film ideas and have Cameron back with Arnie, Linda, and whoever. Have Cameron make the film he wants to and just end the story for good. Set it at the end of “Terminator timeline” End it like it should have always been….with John Conor sending back Reece to 1984 completing the loop.

I’d like to know what people were so disappointed about from Terminator Salvation? I will admit, I had never seen the previous movies, but I thought the movie was mildly entertaining.
KEEP in mind i’m not looking for war of comments here, just honest opinions about why Salvation didn’t meet their expectations.
