OK, allow us to catch you up on all things Thundercats.
Way back when (a few years ago), it was reported that a new movie based on the classic animated Thundercats was on the way from Warner Brothers. The movie adaptation never quite found its legs, and has been in production purgatory ever since. Then last June we found out that WB Animation was entering into a collaboration with Japan’s Studio4°C for a new Thundercats animated series that would have anime influences.
Just recently the first images from the animated series showed up online, but today comes a special bit of footage from the lost Thundercats CG movie that was once on the way. It’s pretty cheesy, to be completely honest, and a lot of work would have to be done if they decided to bring the movie back to life, but it is worth seeing for you fans.
You can see the Thundercats movie clip as well as an image from the upcoming animated series below by clicking on over now.
The main issue most seem to have with the new animated series is Lion-O, who doesn’t look up to par with the original. And judging by this newly released clip, this same problem would have existed if the movie were still slated for release.
So looking at these two pieces of evidence from attempted updates on Thundercats, which do you prefer? Are you happy the movie was put on hold and the series is well on the way, or do you want this movie to be made at some point in the future?

Cheese did not stop the GI-JOE abomination from being released… Looking back at the cartoon would a certain level of cheese not been allowed? I’m not expecting academy award levels here, but all in all I would have watched it and probably enjoyed it. As long as it didn’t sink to the level of Dragonball, then I would be ok.
But then again I liked Battlefield Earth, so what do I know.

Should have brought back Lion-o’s original voice. Other than that, it looks like fun.. although the whole thing reminds me of that idiotic James Cameron movie from last year.

Honestly, that anime-style image makes me think of a furry Goku (not the good version of furry Goku, that is) meeting either Yu Gi Oh or Ben 10… Doesn’t get me excited about the animated series.

I don’t know where the poster came from, but that one looks the best. The anime picture just makes me think of Pokemon and the movie looked like it was going in completely the wrong direction.
Whatever the new incarnation of Thundercats ends up being, it needs to be edgy, and not take itself too seriously, while not being dopey, either.

That test footage was fine by me. I don’t really mind so called “cheesiness”. In fact a little bit of cheese isn’t so bad as it only puts me in a nostalgic retro 80’s frame of mind and that isn’t a bad thing.
I’m looking forward to the animated ThunderCats television show and I’d love to see a new animated Masters of the Universe show on either Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network.
