Geek Art: ‘Guitar Lessons’ Features 35 Rock Guitar Greats

Guitar Lessons

Artist Maxim Dalton has created a new illustration called “Guitar Lessons” which features 35 rock guitar greats.

Dalton plans to offer up posters for this, and that there will be 50 hand-signed and numbered giclée prints at 19 x 25 inches. The cost will be around $40, plus $11 shipping for the U.S. and Europe. Visit the artist’s site for an up-close look at each guitarist, and to reserve a limited edition print.

Here’s a list of all the guitarists in the illustration…

Frank Zappa, George Harrison, Slash, Jimi Hendrix, Keith Richards, Jimmy Page, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Brian May, Johnny Ramone, Jack White, The Edge, Chuck Berry, Angus Young, Pete Townshend, Tony Iommi, Eddie Van Halen, David Gilmour, Ace Frehley, Ritchie Blackmore, Duane Allman, Kirk Hammett, Carlos Santana, John Frusciante, Yngwie Malmsteen, Kurt Cobain, Mike Bloomfield, Jerry Garcia, Ry Cooder, Bo Diddley, Jeff Beck, Tom Morello, Brian Setzer, Peter Green

This is a great group of guitarists that’s for sure! My favorites from this selection are Kirk Hammett, Ace Frehley, Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen, Angus Young, Tony Iommi, and Yngwie Malmsteen (I can see this list going on for a while), though I like most of these players.

Who are your favorites from this illustration? One glaring omission for me would be Randy Rhoads. Who do you think should be included?

  1. Empress Eve, clearly your and my tastes align more closely than mine and this artist’s. Brian Setzer? Ok maybe, if you’re a fan. Jack White??? Please. I like the Stripes done but, seriously? No.

Yeah, I wouldn’t have Brian Setzer, Jack White, The Edge, and as much as I love The Ramones (intensely), I wouldn’t have him on this list. I’d have put Rhoads, Alex Lifeson, the guys from Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, Lita Ford (c’mon, she’s the greatest female guitarist ever and she blows away half the guys on this list). I’d also have Lindsey Buckingham instead of Peter Green. I still really love the illustration because I think the artist captured each musician really well.
