Colin Ferguson, who plays Sheriff Jack Carter on sci-fi TV show Eureka, will direct at least one future Syfy Channel original movie, the actor announced during a panel Sunday at Dragon*Con 2011.
In the past, fans have often ridiculed Syfy’s made-for-TV movies, which feature hokey stories and awful dialog — especially when compared to the network’s original TV shows like Eureka.
Like the good sport he is, Ferguson also poked fun at past Syfy original movies along with the other fellow cast members on the panel, which included Wil Wheaton (Dr. Isaac Parrish), Jordan Hinson (Zoe Carter), and Chris Gauthier (Vincent) as well as the show’s science consultant Kevin Robert Grazier.
Ferguson and Wheaton recited a list of story ideas for possible movies that Syfy executives rejected, like The Mexercist, Diary of Anne Frankenstein, and Manchilla (a movie about a creature that’s part-man, part-chinchilla).
“I’ve asked Colin to direct my show [idea] Megashark versus Mecashark,” Wheaton said, which earned him some laughs from folks in the audience. “We’re sitting there giving them [movie ideas] away to the executives and they don’t even care.”
Ferguson is no stranger to the director’s chair. He’s directed several episodes of Eureka and said he’ll be doing more with the network in the future.
